Mucus Plug

Can you start losing it well before you go into labor? Found out yesterday that baby flipped to breech so they want me to have a c-section in two weeks. Then I found out today that the hospital is completely booked that week and they are waiting to see if a spot opened up for me. I went to the bathroom following that conversation and felt something slimey (sorry to be graphic). I looked at the toilet paper and it looked like a thick strand of mucus, brownish/yellowish with a slight tint of pink. I wiped again, but that was it. I also had an internal yesterday. Not sure if this is the start of me losing the mucus plug, how soon after labor would come, etc. I was only a finger tip dilated yesterday so it's not like they felt labor was looking on the horizon. This is the worst timing for a freak out - I am about to go into a storytime and all I can think of is my water is going to break or something during the middle of singing If You're Happy and You Know It!!

Re: Mucus Plug

  • The mucus plug can regenerate. I'd say if it was coupled with your bloody show, that might more indicative of soon being in labor. But both the MP and bloody show are not sure fire signs of impending labor.

  • Yes. I started losing mine 3 wks before my induction, and at my induction I was only 3 cm and holding so I don't think I was remotely close to going into labor on my own. MP is the gift that keeps on giving.

I lost mine two Saturdays ago and I'm still here.  I wish it was a better indicator of when you were going to start labor, but unfortunately that isn't always the case.
  • I lost mine at 32w5d and went into PTL.  Here I am 5 weeks later still pregnant!

  • Lost mine over 3 weeks ago and its not just strands I have lost chunks of tissue. I have seen that twice now and every couple days what looks like serious snot. So yes it means things are happening but there isnt really a time frame to it. :) Here's to progress! :)
