Hi there,
I'm about to make the switch to CD's and wondering if the sprayer is a necessity? I've watched a couple of YouTube videos where they are just using a "scraper" for the solids and washing it down the bathroom sink. DS still has BM runny poo, but he is 6 months and is starting solids, so I expect that to change soon.
I'm going with the bumgenius 4.0 if that matters....
Any advice for the newbie is much appreciated! Thanks!
Re: Diaper sprayer really necessary?
Thanks for the reply!
Are you rinsing the poopy diapers as well or just putting them into the wet bag once they've been scraped?
We scrap with a devoted spatula. If we have a really nasty poo at home, I will slip the insert out and put the pocket poo side down to soak in the toilet for 5-10 minutes. Then I scrap anything else off.
If we are out I usually just roll anything up and deal with it at home (also for daycare diapers).
For a while there I was just scraping the best I could and putting into the wetbag no rinsing. Now (a week or so) Ive starting scraping and then dunking "rinsing" in the toilet and then putting in wetbag. It does quite well. I like this better as I don't feel like so much poo is getting into washer. Works for me. :-)
Also to add - only dunking in toilet if its a really bad poop (messy)! :-)

I would have quit without mine.
My DS has been really slow to add solids to his diet (we've been at it for 6 months, and his poos are still very liquid most of the time, but with enough food bits the diaper must be cleaned off before it goes in the pail). With him, a sprayer is a total necessity.

Same here. I also tried flushable liners and scraping, and nothing worked as well as my sprayer. DD has gone through some bad poop phases, especially when she got her molars, and I don't know how I would have dealt with her diapers without the sprayer!
I couldn't ever commit to a sprayer so we've been scraping/swishing and it works just fine. I have a spatula that cost 0.59 and have got quite adept at scrapping the diaper clean.
What I do is first take out the insert, then put the diaper face down in the toilet, flip it over and use the spatula to scrap poop off. Wring it out and put into pail. Voila!
Honestly the poop thing really doesn't bother me at all. Vomit bothers me but poop is NBD. I think a sprayer is a nicety but not necessary.
This exactly! Poop doesn't bother me but vomit. eeeek!
Another vote for the sprayer!
It is not *necessary*, but worth every single penny of the ~$35 I spent on it. I'm not afraid of poop, but LOs poops smell AWFUL now so I'm glad to rinse every single chunk down the toilet. The last thing I want is that odor lingering in my house. Plus, I like that my CDs have stayed stain-free.
It's a personal preference. You can always try without it and see how it goes. GL!
I love my BG one.
It is very rare I have a ploppable with either boy - there was no way I was dunking forever. I can't live without my sprayer!

I was a devout scrapper, but with DD pooing more and another LO on the way I told DH we needed a sprayer.
Best choice I made for us.

I'm sure this will qualify as really ignorant, but which bathroom do you hook up the sprayer in? I'm just envisioning my guests being like, "what the heck is that....". Especially since my family isn't pro-CD anyway.
And is it ever an issue with your other children spraying each other, the walls, etc? I'm just trying to figure out the logistics here :-)
