movement?

I am a FTM and I am confused by baby movement. I have just started feeling things that I think are the baby moving but I don't know. This morning while getting ready I kept feeling a dull jolt from the inside. I was low, lower than my belly button and higher than my hip... could this be kicks? Is it too early for kicks (19w6d)? I think I am truly scared that I'm gonna miss something ...nothing I feel, feels like flutters but sometimes gas. Can anyone shed some light?

Re: movement?

  • Everyone is different. STM usually feel them sooner since they know what it feels like and can distinguish the feeling from others. That being said, I am a FTM and I started feeling my baby 15w6d, which is super early compared to my FTM friend who was well over 20 weeks before she noticed her baby moving.

I'm not sure from what you are explaining but honestly, IMO, I think you will know when it's your baby. If you've had gas pangs before you will be able to set them apart.

I started feeling mine about a week ago and it sounds is liar to what you're feeling. Sometimes I get a strong pressure for a few minutes from the inside too that is nothing I have ever felt before, so I'm quite sure it's the little guy. I've also been noticing a lot of the movement in one particular location over and over. If it were gas, it would be more likely to be in various locations.

It definitely could be baby. With my my first, I felt him at about 16 weeks, though I wasn't sure until I was further along.

Pretty soon it will be unmistakable. I would say if you feel that movement, then don't have to fart, it's probably baby.

this made me laugh harder than it should have.

I think it could be baby.  I felt what you described for about a week before it was obvious that baby was moving.  First it was little jolts that could've been gas, but stronger, then I felt the flutters up higher, and then I felt it roll around.  There was no mistaking that!

  • FTM here and I felt the baby on Monday. I was laying on my stomach (I know, bad me) and the baby kicked me several times. I rolled over and MH even felt it. Guess she doesn't like when I squish her. I was 19w exactly.

I never felt flutters, well I take that back I did once but that was actually after I had already felt him moving around. It felt like a little ball or finger tip rolling around the inside of my belly, and then it felt like a poking feeling. I started feeling him around 17 1/2-18 weeks.

  • Some people never notice flutters and they just feel full on kicks.  Sounds like a kick to me.  Pretty soon they will be unmistakeable.  Enjoy!

  • Like the PP said, pretty soon they will be unmistakable. I'm a FTM mom too and I felt flutters since like week 13 but I stated feeling full on kicks two days ago and for three days now I feel them in the evenings when I'm laying after dinner. Lots of fun!

  • I just started feeling her last week, at 20 weeks.  I never felt any flutters.  It feels more like little nudges.  And I could tell it wasn't gas when I felt it several times in different areas.  At my 20 week ultrasound last Thursday, the tech told me I have an anterior placenta so that would have contributed to me feeling her later (and probably why I don't feel any flutters, just stronger movement).

This.  Just last week I started to be able to tell the difference.  Farts always came after gas pangs.
