Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Still not crawling

My DS has gotten into the crawl position and often rocks in it, for about the past 4 mos. He still isnt actually crawling. He can get to another place but it is either by scooting or rolling. I am not overly concerned but curious if anyone else had a LO that "looked" as though they were about to crawl but it took them a good while. Believe me, I still enjoy the safety of my non-crawler.

DD got on all fours and rocked for months before she started crawling.  She was about the same age as your DS when she finally took off.

  • DD looked like she was about to crawl for a couple months. She finally put everything together just a week ago. And now she's starting to try and stand up and pull up!

  • Mine has been doing the rocking on her knees and hands for months and months. I kept thinking this was the beginning. I finally took her in for another pedi visit. Our new pediatrician ruled out any visible problems, and gave us a referral to a physical therapist, but just b/c I asked.

My LO has started army crawling in the last 3 weeks. She is really getting around. I think she will soon be crawling on her hands and knees soon. I don't plan on taking her in for PT unless she has made no more progress in a month.

  • Mine did the whole rocking, scooting, and rolling thing from 5 months through 9 months. She started crawling when she was 9 months, 1 week. A friend of mine's LO started crawling at 10 months and was walking by 13, I believe.

  • My LO has been getting up on all fours and rocking for a good 3ish months(hes 10 months now), but very little movement forward. He bum scoots and uses other toys (like drum sticks) to reach other toys. I'm sure he could crawl as he can support himself on all fours for a good while, but just has no interest. He walks really well while holding onto the couch, table, our hands, pretty much anything. I'd be surprised if he ever crawls.

DD only recently started to crawl. She scooted for a while before that. Some babies don't crawl at all...they go straight to walking.

  • Nick just got accepted into Ei because he's not crawling or pulling up.  He's not pushing up into all 4s either. Although he does bounce to move. But I don't think he realizes hes moving yet.  My oldest never crawled but he was scooting by this age.

My LO started crawling right at 10 months. He will get there!

  • DS first did an army crawl for a LONG time. Then when he learned how to sit up by himself he scoots everywhere. He is JUST now doing a real crawl on hands & knees. I was never worried, as long as he could get around it didn't bother me. It's such a short phase, they'll be walking soon!

My oldest scooted, he never crawled or army crawled. One thing we never did was work on his upper body strength until now. So it might be something you work on with your LO..

Crawling is also suppose to help with brain development too.

  • Mine is a non-crawler.  Can get on all 4's, rocks, then reconsiders and rolls around.
