At my daughter Brooklyn's 9mo check-up, the doctor stated that she wanted to apply fluoride varnish to her 4 baby teeth at her 1 year visit. Is this common practice for a baby this young? Thank you!!
Our pedi said the same thing at our 9 month visit. We're trying to decide whether to accept/decline the treatment. I'm not really sure what to do yet.

Ruby Mirabelle born July 9 at 10:56pm!
Married 05/30/09 & TTC ever since
Clomid only for 5 cycles
IUI #1: 06/07/10 BFN
IUI#2: 08/19/10 BFN
IVF #1 started 10/07/10, ER 10/17/10 6 retrieved/6 fertilized, ET on day 5 10/22/10... Beta #1 on 11/5/10: 680!!!, Beta #2 on 11/8/10: 2337!!!, U/S 11/18/10 Got to see the tiny beating heart! What a blessing!
12/2/10 U/S HB 176 & I'm released!
Our pedi recommended a multivitamin with fluoride in it, which we're giving her. She's tiny so the extra vitamins are a plus and she really doesn't drink much water, so no getting fluoride there.
It says in my AAP book that after age 6 months, if your local drinking water contains less than 0.3 parts per million (ppm) of fluoride, that infants may need appropriate fluoride supplementation. It also says to ask your pediatrician or pediatric dentist whether or not this is needed.
Mine personally did not specify. I remember reading a local water report here in the past (they mail them to us every year) and noticed that the water here is fluoridated. Maybe that's why he did not mention it to me. I will write it down to ask at her 12 month visit.
DH: 34/Me: 35 Married: Feb 2008 DD: June 2011 TTC# 2: April 2014 BFP!! 8/29/16 --> EDD: 5/11/17....it's a GIRL!!!
I've never heard of applying anything like that to baby teeth. My pedi recommended a vitamin with flouride, but for some reason he doesn't seem to know that it's in the water here (even though I told him...and verified with the water dept.).
We're not giving it to DD b/c I've read too many things about it being harmful, and there's no proof that it actually works.
"Fluoride dosages in drinking water age 6 mo. To 3 years .25 mg , 3 to 6 years .5 and 6 to 16 years 1 mg. recommended by American Academy of Peds. Too much fluoride will cause staining of teeth or Fluorosis."
please do your research on fluoride! are you aware that its toxic, and has proven to do nothing when ingested (ie: in water supply)? do NOT give a child a vitamin, or put drops in a childs water. a treatment at the dentist, if anything, is sufficient.

Dr.Cordero said that guidelines for fluoride
"Fluoride dosages in drinking water age 6 mo. To 3 years .25 mg , 3 to 6 years .5 and 6 to 16 years 1 mg. recommended by American Academy of Peds. Too much fluoride will cause staining of teeth or Fluorosis."
You can ask him specifically if you like!
