Last night I flew home from a few days on the east coast for work. Not only is it a bad flight as it is over 5 hours, leaves at 8pm EST so arrives very late PST. I hate that flight but, hey, it gets me home to my DH.
Anyway, here I am in the exit row, pay a bit more the the comfort and free food with Virgin Ameica. Around 2 hours into the flight I smell smoke, I totally freak, the heart is going a million miles a hour and I start to think in a "fight or flight" way especially as I am in the exit row. Then seconds later I realize it is smoke, but not plane going down smoke, but cigarette. The bozo in the middle seat behind me is puffing away on a cig. I looked at him and he shrugged his shoulders.... argh! The attendants finaly smell it as I was trying to get eye contact with them or just call him out and they get it all sorted. He put out the cig in question and hid it. They took them all off him, had him sign some form and took is ID off him. That all seems to settle down after a while but then he starts to pace up and down the plane with his hands in his pockets. I could see all the passengers watching him, I thought he was going to do something really stupid at this point. He was told to sit in his seat and do not get up for the duration of the flight unless he is with an attendant.
Then, hours later, as the plane is desending, the guy in the row in front, middle seat again, starts to have a seizure. Thankfully his wife/SO is there to help him and she seems to control the situation. Man, that was not a mild seizure, his chair nearly broke it was so severe.
Anyway, we land, the seizure guys waits for everyone else to get off the plane as he get's through his ordeal, the smoker gets up in front of me and as he reaches the door, a US Marshall is there to arrest him. He is also fined $2200. I was asked to hang around to give a statement but they let me go without giving one.
Crazy flight, very glad to get home last night. I fly a lot, but these sorts of incidences over time just get me a more nervous flyer as life goes on.

Re: NIFVR - Flight from he!!
What an @ss!!! I can't believe that in this day and age with September 11th and TSA and all that someone would have the NERVE to light up mid-flight!
I'm glad you were able to get home safely.
Holy cow!!! That WAS quite a flight you had!
I can't believe that guy just lit up on the plane!!! Does he not know he's going to be arrested? "No smoking" on a plane isn't a suggestion, it's the law. Sheesh. I'm glad he didn't create anymore of a disturbance that caused you to land somewhere other than your destination.
Watching someone have a seizure like that must've been scary. And the poor guy...I'm glad his wife was able to get it under control and he's OK.

Wow. That's crazy! I can't believe the guy lit up during a flight. How did he even get a lighter in there?
I can't imagine being on a flight with all of that going on. The craziest I've seen was a lady who gave her little girl a flute to entertain her during the flight. MH ended that as soon as we realized what the horrid noise was. LOL. Stupid woman-- you may be able to tune out your LO's horrible flute playing, but I can't and I will not be in an enclosed space with it!
Glad you made it home safely!!
