Still not eating much but gaining? Anybody with experience??

Hi everyone,

I posted almost 2 weeks ago about my son eating less and my concerns. I took him to his GI specialist, his opinion was that its possible he is eating only what he needs/wants and as long as his weight gain continues not to worry too much. My son is 14 weeks old, 9 weeks adjusted. He is currently eating Neocate for possible milk protein sensitivity. He is also on Prevacid Solutabs 7.5 mg once a day for reflux issues.

He is eating between 17-20 ounces a day. He will take the bottle when very hungry, eat an ounce or two and then begin getting agitated. He is still gaining weight, currently weighs 10 lbs 7 oz (was 4 lbs 1 oz at birth). He gained 2 lbs during the month of April once we started him on the Neocate.

He has a followup appointment with the GI specialist to get reweighed and reevaluate this situation.

Just wondering if anybody out there has gone through/is going through something similar or has a baby who just doesn't have a large appetite but is still gaining weight just fine? Everyone tells me not to worry as long as he is gaining weight, but it's just amazing to me that he can get by (and gain!) on such a small amount!

my daughter is 23 weeks, 14 weeks adjusted. It is a strugle to get her to eat. She was doing 3-4oz every 3 hours (24-32oz per day), and then she became sick (bad cold in her lungs) she refused to eat and lost 1lb in a week (scary time). This was 2 weeks before easter. She now only eats 3-5oz every 4-5 hours (15-25oz per day) and is still gaining weight like a pro. I am concerned but her pedi, says the same as your gi doc, she must be eating what she needs, because she is gaining like she should.

My LO was breastfeeding but she never took more than 20-24oz a day, and rarely 24. She's fine. Small, but fine.
