4/5 YO girl question about play sets

Does your 4 or 5 year old girl still like to play with little playsets? Like little houses with figurines and little pets and things, but that you can't dress? Seems like I liked that stuff on and off for a long time, but not sure what girls today are into during the preschool/5K years.

I adore these little fairy sets and there's a cool tree house that I would like to get, but I am wondering if DD will be too old by next Christmas (she'll be almost 4 at Christmas).

  • I played w/ alot of that stuff until I was 8 or 9 - just in different, more complex ways as a I got older - more relationships, complicted stories for each "character".  I would imagine DD will play the same way.

  • Like PP said. I dont think you ever get too old for it. Well, at least not till you hit the tween yrs. I would definitely get it. My daughter is going on 5 in June and still plays with it. I got it for her at 3.

  • Yep, DD1 turned 4 in Feb. She never really played w/ that stuff before, but her imagination has suddenly soared and she plays with those types of toys all the time!

  • It depends on the set. My mom got DD a TInkerbell playhouse thing (DD loves fairires) and she isn't at all interested in it - the figures don't sit well, they can't hold things in their hands, etc. But the Playmobil sets we have are played with a lot - but they're easier to manipulate, the people can actually ride on the horses, hold cups, etc.

  • My 5 year old adores such things, and plays with them for hours.

In particular, we have the old tiny Polly Pockets she loves and Lego Friends. She has such intricate set-ups when she plays that we let her keep them out.... literally 2-5hours a day playing, making up story lines for the characters that continue day to day.  Her older sister, almost 10, will often join her in playing, but they only keep her interest for a half hour ish now.
