Anyone with a mixed baby?

Anyone have a mixed baby? I am just curious how long it takes their color to come in. I know they are typically born looking pretty caucasian but I am curious how long it will take for them to get darker? I think I read somewhere they reach their full color by 3 months but I"m not sure...TIA

Ummm I'm thinking the same thing "full color", but Ill take a shot at it assuming the OP just didn't know how to word it. But your child complexion can vary  he or she may be born  your complexion and stay that way or he/she may be slightly darker. I have never heard that the Bi-racial children slowly get darker in a specific time frame. I have friends that have children and both parents are African American and the child is born very pale and sometimes stays that way or gets darker there is way more involved then Mom and Dads skin tone.

For example my daughter was very pale when  she was born, her knuckles were a few shades darker and that is basically her normal complexion but in the summer time she gets a golden glow almost immediately.

I really wouldn't worry to much about your child skin complexion in regards to color.

    Hopefully I covered that correctly.

  • I didn't mean it to sound funny. That's what we call it here "full color". And yes it does take time for color to come in. The melanin takes time to develop from the baby being in the womb for 9 months.

I was told by my friends here that you can look at the color of their ears and that is the color they will be as they get older. I had never heard that but when I observed an black Nigerian friend's newborn it was true that he ended up being the color of his ears! It's how all women here seem to determine how dark their child will be (here lighter children are considered more beautiful but to me all is fine!)

  • I am half black and was born pretty light, got darker, but now as I get older I am getting a lot more pale ESPECIALLY after getting pregnant which is weird. I actually have to try to get some sun now and get darker so I look like my normal self. I think it just depends on the person. My husband is white so I am curious to know what our baby will come out looking like!

  • You can normally tell at birth by the babys skin around the nail beds, knuckles, and ears at least this has been the case in my African American family. By 2-3 month the childs skin tone will be evident.  My son was very fair at birth and he quickly turned a deep brown with in a matter of months, however his ears were always the deep brown that he is today.

Yes I know the melanin takes time to develop I just didn't know there was a specific time frame as you stated in your original post.  As PP's have stated the knuckles and around the nail beds are good indicators as well.

  • LOL I've never heard "full color" before, but four kids in my family (I'm half white, half Nigerian) and all of our tones differ. I'm the oldest and pretty light. My sister after me is the same tone. My brother, seven years younger, is darker than us and baby sis, ten years younger, well, we lovingly call her "white chocolate." My son (Nigerian, White and Native American) stayed the same tone from when he was born - looks like he got a good tan.

Also, as a lighter looking mixed kid, I can tell you that my skin tone changes throughout the year as well.

  • My LO was almost a year old before you could really see his complexion. He was especially light until probably around 7 months old. Oh, & another LOL @ "full color."
