Q about refrigerating pump parts..

So I've heard here & there about refrigerating pump parts in between pumping sessions...now I'm a little confused as to what to do...do I rinse them then put them in a storage bag & then into the fridge? Should I dry them first? Or is it easier to just put them into the fridge without the bag? I've pumping every 2 1/2-3 hours for the past month & am sick of washing this stuff.... :p

Re: Q about refrigerating pump parts..

  • I understand that! I run some water through the parts and place in them in a clean ziplock bag before putting them in the fridge. After 24 hours you need to wash the parts. If you don't wash the bag after 24 hours, just replace it.

  • At home, I rinse them and toss them in a ziploc bag and into the fridge.  At work, I blot with a towel, but I don't sweat it if they're a bit milky before they go in the bag.
  • I think I rinsed them and threw them in a zip loc bag with a paper towel in between sessions, then I took them home to wash them.

    Why do you refrigerate them?

I just rinse them with hot water & let them dry on our bottle rack!

  • I stuck them in the fridge without rinsing. The whole point was to make it easier and not have to find water to wash them.
  • I put my parts in a ziploc container and put them right in the fridge after pumping.  I don't rinse, but I wash the parts and ziploc container each night.

  • I stick them in the fridge without rinsing and not in a bag.  Then I wash them every day or two.  I did this with DS and now am doing it with DD.

I don't even rinse.  I just throw them in a ziplock bag, then in a small lunch cooler, then they go straight to the fridge!  I do throw rinse them and put them in the dishwasher every night!

  • I have a tupperware container that I use, no rinsing either. I just throw the parts in it and put the whole thing in the fridge with my milk cooler and wash everything at the end of the day.

This is what I have been doing for months, esp since coming back to work. I put them into the ziplock then into the fridge.  LO is just fine and hasn't been sick, if that's of any help.

  • There's no reason to refrigerate. Just rinse in between sessions and watch each night.

At work I just blot with a tissue and put them in my pump bag.  BM is good at room temp for 6-8 hours, and I pump 2X, 3 hours apart, so they are fine.  Then I wash them at home.  I have another pair I use for my 1st monring pump at home so that I start with fresh parts at work.  I have always done this and have never had issues.  Unless you are going for a long time without washing, I don't know why you need to even refrigerate during the workday...
  • I never put them in the refrigerator. I always wiped the parts down with baby wipes (seventh generation) and threw them in my pump bag. BM is good for several hours without being refrigerated so I figured the pump parts were fine too.
