Trouble TTC

Met side effects??

Ever since I started Metformin last week i get some version of a headache everyday. I don't know why, actually. I drink lots of water now, I eat better (except for last night's KFC, refer to prev thread "why did I eat junk on met" lol). I am wondering if I should call the doc or if this is just a minor thing that will eventually pass. Anyone? Insert thy opinion *here*___________________

 Thanks!

Re: Met side effects??

  • Headaches will go away in time. I got them, too. Are you taking extended release? If not, you may want to ask about switching before your next refill. I also recently learned that you should have your B12 levels periodically checked while on Met. I have to start taking a supplement.

  • When I first started I did have headaches but they eventually went away.  I have been on 2000mg for about 6 weeks and I occasionally get headaches when I haven't eaten for awhile.  Once I eat they go away.  But you could still call the doc if they are really bothering you

  • I've been on met for about two months now. I had tons of headaches before starting Met and they've diminished greatly since. Met mostly makes my stomach ill - usually about three hours after taking each pill. But that wears off after a week, but started again each time the dose increased.

The theory about the headaches is the low blood sugar. Tons of fiber helps that too.

  • I agree with the PP about the low-blood sugar creating headaches, so make sure you eat throughout the day.

I take 1500mg at night right before bed with a few saltines and I usually sleep through the side effects, but if I get up and don't eat soon after, another headache usually creeps up.

Lots of water and maintaing good blood sugar is the key.
