that probably doesnt make a whole lot of sense. but i dont have any other way to describe it.
mine do fine during the day...they need to be elevated for about 10 minutes and thorougly burped after a feeding, but after that they are okay as long as i dont put them flat on their batcks right away (like on the playmat). they can be in their swing, or on their bellies though, or in a boppy. they spit up probably less than half of the time. and it's nothing major. ...i feel like a rookie bc my son was so easy.
at night, the "reflux" seems worse. i guess heartburn is worse for adults too at night. they do one feeding at night now...but im up with them forever w. them bc of it. this morning little one got up at 3:45 to eat, and i was up with her for almost an hour. then the bigger one got up at 4:30 (which sucked because she went 7 hours straight and i couldnt even take advantage of it!) i feel like we are aaallmost there though with the sttn.
anyone have similar situation?
Re: anyone's babies have reflux but not totally?
My girls have reflux totally...meaning they spit up all the time every day, but it still gets worse at night. And their pain is worse at night to go along with it. Fortunately the meds keep the pain at bay, but I cannot miss a dose ever. They sleep on the AR Pillow for Infants (you can find it on Amazon.com. Search for Acid Reflux Pillow for Infants). It will be the top item found. It helps a ton!
Right now I am trying the Enfamil AR. They were just released from their Neosure 22. I started the Enfamil AR on Tuesday night. I'm not seeing a huge difference at this time, so I wonder if I ever will. I'm going to try it for a little while longer - probably through the weekend, so I can see how they are all day long. Enfamil AR has rice cereal in it, so it's a thicker formula. It's supposed to help it stay down.
To make matters worse, they started daycare this week, and the daycare providers have all said they've never seen reflux this bad. Way to make a mom feel better, right? I'm very frustrated already, and anyone making comments to me just make me feel worse. If I could fix it, I would...I'm trying everything.
Our girls have been on Zantac since they were born. I've discussed this with their pediatrician. The Zantac only helps the pain. It does not have any bearing on how much they spit up. I'm so praying the Enfamil AR will help. At this point, I can't say it is, but it may be too early to tell? Should it work right away or is there an adjustment period, does anyone know? How long would you give it before you decide it's not working?
My girls were usually okay during the day, but had a lot of issues in the evening and at night. They didn't spit up, but had lots of pain with feedings.
I would talk to your pedi about Zantac and if that doesn't help, Prevacid. Zantac helped my girls a little at first, but the Prevacid worked great!
same here!
my twin B seems to finally be on the backside of her reflux. At one point, she was on Zantac (prn) and Prevacid once a day.
We were initially on Prilosec before the Prevacid, but there is some sort of compounding agent in the Prilosec that can make it very difficult to get your rx filled. Always always always on backorder.
The prevacid seemed to really help the spit up because it was a slow release med. I had to mix it in a small amount of formula to get her to take it. If I mixed it with water she'd spit it back out. She's been without any reflux meds for about a week. I'm biting my nails, but so far, so good! YAY! Good luck!!!
I'd also like to add that no matter how we positioned my twin B, nothing really made an impact until she was prescribed meds.
Thankfully my dr saw how she was arching her back even in his office although she wasn't even crying at the moment. He ordered a barium swallow and the dr that read the test even pointed out that the amount of acid churning from her stomach was easily visible on the screen.
