Still pregnant with twins .. feeling pressure/pain

I am still pregnant right now with twins and if I walk or stand I have extreme pressure in my lower ab's and in my pelvic area. If I lay down or sit down it seems to calm down. I just can't walk far at all without the pain and discomfort kicking in. It freaks me out to think I am going to be feeling like this and worse for three more months! I have a cerclage and the OB says my cervix is still long and closed at my last visit. I go back monday to the OB. The pain isn't like contractions though .. its constant if I am standing or walking.

Did you other ladies have this? Was there anything you did to help with the pain? TIA

  • Have you tried a pelvic cradle?  I did not experience this but maybe that would help.

  • Yes! Mine started week 16. Look up "PSD" on the Babycenter site. What helped me was warm compresses, and a warm bath and lying down for 2 days. I cried thinking it would be forced, but it definitely went away and only bothers me while trying to turn in bed. Keep your knees together when you move or turn. GL it will hopefully get better!!!!
  • Never heard of a pelvic cradle I will have to check into it!

I do the warm baths .. and laying on my side. I keep my knee's together when I turn too .. its hard to turn otherwise!  HA ..

I break up all tasks .. I can't stand or walk for long! I too will sit down and cook as much as I can sitting. I usually have my older kids help me with the standing and stirring when I cook and such.

I don't lift anything that's heavier than a gallon of milk.

I'm trying!    =)  I just want this pain to stop!

  • I think I had the same thing you have when I was pregnant with my daughter.  When I was pregnant with her I was working 40/50 hours per week standing long 10-12 hours.  Toward the last month of my pregnancy it felt like someone punched me down there.  It is relieve when I lay down but get worst when I stand to work.  My doctor said my daughter dropped really low and is pressing and separating my pelvis bone.  I am pregnant with twins now at 17 weeks and I'm starting to feel that something is there.  Not pain yet, but there is a differences when I lay down and stand up.
  • I've been going through this too, since about the same time. I didn't have any luck with a pelvic cradle, but mostly because my twin A would push up against it so hard that it ended up making my pain worse. Other's I've talked to had good luck with them though.

What helped me most was a trip to the chiropractor. As it turns out, the right side of my pelvis had moved over an inch higher than my left, and the pull from that was massively contributing to the pain. A couple of quick adjustments and, though I'm not pain free, I can walk and move around without wincing and fighting back tears.

Ice packs and heating pads have helped with the rest of the pain, and I 100% second what PP said about keeping your knees together when you get out of bed. Or really anytime you need to move your lower body. Try to move it all as a unit instead of one leg at a time.

  • Wearing a support belt really helped me.  It might be worth a try - I wore it from about 28 weeks to the end of the pregnancy.

  • Oh yes! I definetly have those pains every single day. It's from all the weight. My theory is while I'm measuring like a 31 weeker it happened really fast and I didn't necissarily get the core strength to hold it all up. My OB actually suggested using the motor scooters at the grocery stores. I told her heck no! I'm not there yet! I've also heard the belly braces help alot too.

  • SPD is a really specific pain, which it sounds like you are having some of.  Maybe it's your main complaint but I couldn't really tell.  The weight of the babies though also adds a different dimension to how I think we all feel.  And then positioning.  I carry really low and so Baby A is head down and very low in my pelvis (so low the u/s tech had a hard time getting a good pic of him/her today) and baby B is breech and a little more scooted up.  And then I'm measuring a good 5-6 weeks ahead and as big (weight wise) now as I was at 41 weeks when I delivered my daughter.  So ya, I feel a lot of pressure, pain, and general discomfort.  But of course it's always good to mention all of this to your doctors.

  • I am having the same pain. My OB told me it was all the pressure from the twins. I am 22 weeks and finally broke down and ordered a V2 prenatal cradle support underwear. They almost look like a jock strap. I ordered thru amazon as that was the cheapest I could find. Came yesterday and I immediately felt relief! Well worth it!
