My generous mother-in-law has offered to buy the crib. How much is reasonable for a good crib? Hubby and I saw one at BRU that we liked and is priced at $399, it's a lifetime crib too. Is this an OK price, too cheap, too expensive??
My husband and I ordered the Graco Lauren crib (very highly rated, and is a lifetime crib that converts from toddler bed into a full-size bed [headboard at least]), because it was $175 with a mattress (that got HIGH ratings, made in Canada) at Walmart. While I don't normally shop Walmart, the price was good enough to make me go with them. On Amazon the same crib (alone, no mattress) was $200! I felt really good about the price. It depends what you want, though! I would definitely recommend comparison shopping, though, even if you know exactly what crib you want, you may find it for a MUCH better price elsewhere! Good luck!!
I would say around 300 is reasonable. My mom has the Graco Lauren at her house. We have a Babi Italia and I can notice the difference. Ours seems much sturdier and the details are much nicer. If you try to shake it doesn't move what so ever. My Graco Lauren while I am sure perfectly safe just seems flimsy.

I guess I don't know what my price point would have been had I only needed 1 crib, or if someone offered to buy! But we paid about $110 each for both of our cribs, I probably would have went up to $200 for each crib if I had to. I think anything over 300 for a crib is a waste, they're all mostly the same and there are cheaper options (and stores) out there.

I think that is a very reasonable price. You could find something cheaper; the cribs in the 250 and under range are okay and safe, but the wood is typically much thinner than the cribs in the 400 range. I say go w/ what you want - offer to pay the difference if it's too much for her budget, and make sure to use a coupon!
We looked at the Graco Lauren b/c it is the exact color we need and so cute; but it honestly was really wobbly compared to the $400 crib we bought for our son. We decided it's worth the extra money to get something w/ thicker wood.
The way I see cribs is that they all have to meet the same safety standards. We got the Gulliver from Ikea and it came out to $109 and some change with tax. One side can be removed to become a toddler bed. For the cost of that crib, and then the cost of a regular bed once the child is old enough for what will probably last them the rest of their time at home, we'll pay less than some of these convertible crib sets. I'm always astonished to see what people pay for cribs sometimes.
Thanks guys! I would have to do more research then, since most of you guys bought cribs for much cheaper! The cribs I have looked at so far were in the $300 range.
Re: what's a reasonable price for a CRIB?
I paid $300 for my crib. I bought conversion rails for an extra $55.00 and then the matress (I forget how much that was)
I couldn't find many cribs that were under $300 (other than Ikea) - but it probably depends on where you live.
