6 weeks, only a sac? ANYone experience this?

So I went in for the first ultrasound today and DH came with me. The doctor estimated me at 6 weeks from the size of my gestational sac (it was 13mm)...but no heartbeat or fetal pole...just what looks like an empty sac, she said it "something" looked like it "could be" appearing on the lining, and my doctor said she wasnt worried and asked to see me back on Tuesday, about a week from today.

I know I shouldnt go google-crazy but I cant help but worry, things i'm reading say a yolk sac should be present by 13mm or it indicates a non-viable pregnancy. I know nothing can be set in stone but that is the most disheartening thing ever.

Has anyone experienced this??

Yes, I've experienced what you're going through. Unfortunately, I had a blighted ovum. However, I was 99% sure of my ovulation date, and I tested positive at 10dpo, so there was no wiggle room as far as my EDD was concerned.

I hope you just O'd a day or two later than you thought and have a better outcome!

My suggestion is to try to stay off the internet as much as possible right now. Especially google. Stress isn't going to help you at all, and since everyone is different and your dates could be off, you need to stay positive! 

My first appointment is next Tuesday at 7 weeks. My doc wouldn't see me before 7 weeks because he wants to be sure I'm far enough to see the HB. My friend in MN couldn't get an appointment til 10 weeks. I think some doctors choose to wait to avoid early anxiety.

The is my first pregnancy so i am no help there, but my Dr purposely scheduled me for my first appt in my 9th week, i assume to avoid such situation.

Was there a yolk sac hun? i went in at 5w5d and we saw the gestational sac and yolk sac, no fetal pole or hb. we went in 10 days later and saw the baby and heartbeat. hopefuly you just have a slow cooker and arent as far as you thought you were! good luck!

I had my 1st u/s this time around 6 weeks, 4 days.  We had 4 babies (crazy I know) and 1 empty sac. We just assumed that sac would be absorbed, but 2 weeks later, there was a baby in there... and the baby had pretty much caught up with the others.  So there is hope! GL to you!

I am kind of going thru the same thing. Had my first appt on Monday 04/30/12 & they did an ultrasound because we know going in that this is be a high risk pregnancy due to two previous losses in the past. I should be 6 weeks 4 days as of that date but the ultrasound tech was only able to find a gestational sac & yolk sac. No fetal pole or heartbeat yet. She stated that I am measuring at 5 weeks instead of where I know I should be. I am so worried I go back in two weeks for another appt & ultrasound but I will be a nervous wreck until then. I know what you are going thru. Lets hope we just ovulated later than what we thought. Sending T&P your way.

If you're going by your LMP, you might just be off on your dates.  You very well could not have ovulated right on schedule with a 28 day cycle.  I didn't, and since I was charting I've been very clear to my doctor and anybody doing an u/s so they don't freak me out saying I'm measuring behind.  Also, implantation can happen anywhere from 7-12 days.  So, if you didn't implant at 7 days, there's another few days that can throw your measurements off.

Thoughts and prayers your way that you can get through these next few days without driving yourself crazy with worry, and something will show up on your next u/s!!!

I am six weeks tomorrow but had an u/s today and there was no HB or fetal pole but I saw the Gestational sac and yolk sac. They say you wouldn't hear a HB until 6w 2 d but maybe you ovulated later than you think. One or two days make a difference so I am sure you will see more when you go on tuesday. Good luck

Were you charting?  You could be off on when you actually conceived but 6 weeks can be early and if you are off by even a day it can make a huge difference this early on.  We will be watching for an excellent update next Tuesday!!!

Thanks for sharing girls. I didn't see the yolk sac but she did see what she said could be something forming on the right side of the gestational sac lining...so very hopeful by tuesday she sees something and I was just off on the dates...
