I have had 2 c/s already. My first was at 35 weeks due to pre-E and a failed induction. She had no problems and never spent a second in the NICU she was only 4lbs 13oz.
My 2nd was done at 39 weeks and again no problems but a failed VBAC/induction.
The dr is taking this baby by 38 weeks the latest probably 37 weeks due to a thin uterus when I had my 2nd. Someone told me I would need to have an amnio before getting it done to see if the lungs are developed. I never heard this before and will ask the dr at my next appointment but figured I would ask here as well.
Re: Do you have to have an amnio if you have a c/s before 38 weeks?
Well if the doctor has already made up his mind due to health reasons for you than I don't see why they would do an amnio. Sounds like even if baby lungs aren't ready the baby would be safer out than in.
if the baby is better off out than in regardless of the results, they won't do one.
If it is quesitonable, they may.
I would guess that since uterine rupture is a concern, they'll deliver and skip the amnio.

I was supposed to have one the day before my repeat c/s at 38w. Grace decided to come on her own at 37 weeks so it didn't matter.
I was talking to my MFM today and she was saying how they are really cracking down on repeat c/s before 39 weeks and there has to be a medical reason or doctors are getting fined. I'm still hoping they'll be able to schedule me for what I've been planning/expecting for the the past 18 weeks....38w3d w/ an amnio the day before. Hope to know more on Friday at my regular OB appt.

BFP #3 1/20/10 My angel's little sister Grace Madison was born September 8th 2010 @37w. We're so blessed! Thank you angel for getting her here safely.

I'm in a very similar situation. History of pre-e and preemies and stillbirth, and was always anticipating this delivery would be by 37w. I am scheduled to have a csec tomorrow morning, but had an MFM-recommended amnio this morning, and the baby failed miserably (mature amnios are 50+, we were at 32), and so now my ob and MFM are running two additional tests to see if we are proceeding with the csec in the morning, or....?
I'm nervous and disappointed and all kinds of confused. I just want this baby out safe, even if it means some NICU time.... =(
