NMR and random-cut my finger, probably needed stitches...

but, didn't go.  I cut my knuckle on a can of beans I was opening.

Question-It's open on one side of the cut and completely connected on the other but, since it's on my knuckle it isn't healing at all.  It keeps opening and it is pretty deep.  It bled off and on for two days.

Should I give it more time or is there something the doctor can do about it now?

I know random.....

ETA-I did it last Thursday.

  • They won't stitch it after 24 hours due to risk of infection.

You can try taping it up in a way that hold the edges close together and maybe splint the finger so you don't keep bending it.

  • I would try the liquid skin bandage. It sprays on and is antiseptic and waterproof. It's what I use when I get cuts on my hands.

True. We don't stitch after 24 hours on the hand/fingers. Steri-strips with a splint would be a good idea. I wouldn't use the skin glue at this point (for the same infection reason), but the kind you buy at the store doesn't last that long, so it would probably be okay. I would still go with the steri-strips though. Either way, it should heal, but will take way longer.

The more important question is have you had a tetanus shot in the last 5 years? Some people have them after delivery, so if that's the case, you're covered! They should really be given within 72 hours of the injury though.

Hope it gets better! I know that hurt!
