Trying to Get Pregnant

1st Round of Clomid I ovulated but not pregnant

I had not had a period for almost 3 years but last month for the first time I spotted. My OB put me on 50 mg of Clomid for 5 days and I took my day 23 blood test last week and I ovulated Smile Yippee. But when I took my home pregnancy test it was negative. Is it normal not to get pregnant after the first round of Clomid? I know everyone is different but I also don't want to get discouraged so any positive responses would be appreciated.

Re: 1st Round of Clomid I ovulated but not pregnant

  • Yes, it is totally normal to not get pregnant on Clomid. Clomid just makes you ovulate (or is supposed to), meaning that you still only have about a 20% chance of getting pregnant, just like you would if you had ovulated on your own.

  • Yes, totally possible. Many people don't get pregnant at all on clomid (or anything else for that matter). It is just there to help you ovulate.

I'm not going to even ask about monitoring since I'm pretty sure you didn't have any. Best of luck to you, and I hope you get pg soon :)

  • I ovulated but did not get pregnant on my first round of Clomid (plus trigger plus IUI).  So yes I think it's very normal.

  • I've taken 3 rounds without success.

Like PP stated, Clomid only makes you ovulate. Which puts you at a 20% success rate - the same as the average TTGP population. So if it can take a healthy couple up to a year, it can take multiple rounds of Clomid to get success. Unfortunately, 6 rounds is the lifetime limit. Have you had other testing to ensure that your issue is not strictly anovulation?

I took 6 rounds.. so yep, not abnormal.

You'll want to ask your OB for proper monitoring of Clomid or a referral to an RE if he/she can't do that. You should be having ultrasounds and bloodwork CD3, CD10-12 and possibly more after that, not just a progesterone draw on CD23.

What's your diagnosis and what other testing was done? Or did your OB just give you Clomid?
