2 month old and paci

Anyone else's LO still not have the paci thing down? DS likes his pacifier (he doesn't protest when I put it in and he actively sucks on it - it calms him and helps him go to sleep) but he just can't seem to keep it in his mouth for the life of him.

I've always heard the tip to pull on it a little bit while they're sucking on it so it causes them to suck harder and if you do that a few times they will start to suck it back in if it starts slipping out. But that doesn't not seem to be working with him.

Last night after his bottle, I laid him down (swaddled, so it's not like his hands are knocking it out or anything) and I must have replaced the pacifier half a dozen times before he fell asleep. Once he's asleep, if it pops out he is fine with not sucking on it and doesn't wake up for it - it is just getting him to sleep while it keeps popping out that is the problem.

  • Mine is the same way she holds it in but as she falls asleep when her hands drop from keeping it in and it falls out she gets cranky. It seems to be getting better, but it is taking forever.

  • Yup, DS has the same problem.  I'm hoping he'll get the hang of it soon!

This worked like a charm for both DS1 and now DD2. Just a gentle tap when they stop sucking or when it slips out. It's kind of like saying, "hey, remember this thing?"

This is what worked for DS! It took a few weeks (!) but he's getting the hang of it now.
