Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Looking for guidance

I am about 6 weeks pregnant. There was some question regarding the date of conception but I am certain I conceived on 3/17. I went for an ultra sound on 4/17 and they dated the pregnancy at 5 weeks which made sense. I was told the they could see the yolk sac but no baby, which also made sense. My doctor then wanted me to follow up that week with blood work. My hcg leve 4/18 was 7038 and on 4/20 my level was only 7052. My doctor told me it was impossible that I had a normal pregnancy and diagnosed a blighted ovum. I've had no period symptoms and at this point I can't tell how I actually feel. I believe my doctor and I know she didn't want to give me false hope but I also feel NyoMike I should have one more blood test or ultrasound. Maybe I'm just in denial, but has anyone has had a similar experience. I just feel like she wrote me off to quickly.

I'm sorry. Your levels should double about every 48 hours, so unfortunately your doctor is right that your levels don't look good. Even when your levels drop, you may not miscarry right away. But there's nothing wrong with getting another beta drawn to give you some closure - your doctor will want to monitor your beta down to 0 anyways.

I agree with PP--levels should be doubling.  Like she said, closure is important, and after I miscarried, I had weekly blood draws until my levels were back to zero, so you will likely have beta testing done anyways.

    Sorry for your loss :(

Unfortunately I don't think your doctor is wrong on this one. I've never heard of betas not coming pretty close to doubling in 48-72 hours and someone having a good outcome. The blood draw is an extremely conclusive test in that regard.

If you did in fact conceive on 3/17 then on 4/17 you should have been 6 1/2 weeks along and you would have seen a fetal pole and a heartbeat. The fact that you didn't and you're so certain of your dates further indicates a blighted ovum. I'm so sorry. I know it sucks.

If you think one more ultrasound or more blood work will help you then by all means ask for that. (((hugs)))
