a question about prefolds...

Do you use inserts with the prefolds or not? I have a bunch of prefolds and covers plus some AIO's as well that came with microfleece, bamboo and hemp inserts. Are the inserts only for the AIO's?

You can, but you don't have to. 

When I was using PFs, I would use a prefold alone all day, and wrap a hemp inside a pf for night.  The cotton is absorbant enough on it's own, but I wasn't changing throughout the night.

I use prefolds sometimes during the day while at home and since i change so often anyway i don't add anymore absorbency
