New RE? (BFN mentioned)

Aaaaaaand, I just endured another official BFN.  Although I saw it coming as of late last week...it still burns, a lot.

On a proactive note, DH and I are considering holding on the frozen cycle since we only have one of two that has a better chance of making the thaw and switching RE's for a third fresh cycle.  I have heard great things about the UCSD Fertility Center located in La Jolla, CA.  Anyone have experience with this clinic?

How about The Center for Reproductive Health in Spokane, Washington?  I guess their claim to fame is a day six embryo vitrification followed by a frozen transfer...

Countless BFN(s)

I will look into the two clinics you mentioned, thank you for the suggestion. We considered Spokane because of their exceptionally high SART scores. Do you know something about this clinic that would make me reconsider? If we consider traveling for our next cycle, it will most likely be La Jolla, but I'm all ears for West Coast clinics...

My clinic is in the bay area if you want the info - I think he is wonderful and technically I am a success story since he got me KU with twins the first go round.  He does free phone consults so if anything you can get another opinion.  He is big on immunolgy though so that would have to be something you are open to and it greatly increases the cost.

I also co-lead the bay area resolve group and the women here either go to my doc, Pacific Fertility in SF or to Oregon or Colorado.

I am very sorry for your BFN.  ((hugs))

Thank you so much for the virtual hugs and clinic advice.

You know what one of the gazillion hardest parts of a BFN are? ...packing up the kitchen med station. Hits like a ton of bricks that the cycle is really over. The only good part about a dreaded failed cycle, DH and I can get back to doing the dirty deed! ::blushes::

Another question to add to the existing, if you don't mind...what do you look for in a general SART report? Not a report that is specific to diagnosis. Just wondering how others read the reports...

I'm sorry about your BFN. :(

I would double check the data on the SART scores.  I believe that Spokane's success rates are lower than the Seattle clinics . . . or at least they were during my last comparison.  I had a friend with DOR why did IVF in Spokane, and I got the impression from her experience they don't do a lot of DOR cycles, but I could be wrong on that.  We're also traveling for our IVF cycle, and I've looked at a lot of the West Coast clinics.  In addition to SRM, you might also check out Oregon Reproductive Medicine -- I don't have any personal experience, but their stats are good, they deal with a lot of traveling patients, and were very friendly when I talked with them on the phone.   There's also CCRM, depending on how far you want to travel.  Good luck!

So I was curious and went and looked up Spokane's SART scores, and their 2010 scores were MUCH higher than any of their other years.  The 2010 scores for pregnancy rates (especially for the under 35 age category) were REALLY good, but they also report only doing 3 cycles total for women who were DOR.  I'd just make sure to look at the data over a period of several years, and take a look at your specific diagnosis.

Thank you so much for all of the valuable information. Honestly, I never thought we would have to go this far...analyzing SART scores across the West Coast, but here we are and thank you you for your support and information. I am learning how to better read these SART scores with a fine tooth comb and La Jolla still looks pretty darn good as well as Portland as you mentioned. Thanks again.

Hi, I'm a lurker. I hope you don't mind me posting. I related to a lot of these posts and just wanted to respond in case it helps.

    I'm sorry for your BFN.

I traveled from the Midwest to Portalnd, OR, after 5 years of trying locally and finally found success. I know several people from my area who went there and had take home babies too.  ORM handles a lot of donor cycles too and is experienced in that area.

CCRM in Colorado is also very popular and highly rated.  Lots of people I know have gone there also successfully too.

We found the cost difference was significant between ORM and CCRM.  ORM is much much more affordable and the stats were close to CCRM.

Traveling for IF treatments seems crazy at first, but it very manageable.  Once you've been trying for several years, you will do anything to realize your dream.

TTC #1 for over 5 years - too many to count IF treatments (tried everything and anything), repeat miscarriages. Finally, Sticky Success!! B/G Twins arrived 2011. VOTE on my Name List Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

Are you kidding?  I don't mind a bit!  I really appreciate the advice from personal experience at ORM.  We have only begun our clinic research and I would really like to know more about your experience with ORM.  I wish we could consider Colorado, but it is just too expensive and too far for us to travel.  Do you mind if I send you a PM?

I don't know about the clinics, but wanted to say I'm so sorry.  The research and the analysing, and second guessing...really all the damn work...is so frustrating and time consuming.  I hope that you get your BFP soon doll, you deserve it!

Hi B.  I have been thinking about you.  How are you?  The research and analysing is indeed exhausting.  I didn't sleep a wink last night...not sure if was all the junk food I ate in my state of self pity yesterday or just the mind boggling thought of, I really have to do this aaaaall over aaaagain?  Feels surreal.  I can't believe it didn't work, again.  Hugs to you and thanks for the well wishes.

I don't have any advice really, just want to say I'm thinking of you and so sorry for the BFFN.  :(  I know that exhausting, frustrating and sad feeling of ... really, again??

I go to a clinic in T.O., CA, not sure where you are currently?  You mentioned a Dr. B and I go to one, so I thought maybe we are at the same place??  (realizing there are thousands of Dr. B's out there ;-))

Hi RPL! I'm no longer active on the bump but I just sent you a PM. We used UCSD.

I also co-lead the bay area resolve group and the women here either go to my doc, Pacific Fertility in SF or to Oregon or Colorado.

I am very sorry for your BFN.  ((hugs))

That was where I went for IVF #1...  and while the experience was very nice (it's a privately run clinic so the facilities are beautiful, you can always get an appointment at whatever time you need, staff is very attentive, etc.) they didn't seem very cutting edge to me.  When I tried to bring up relevant research after my BFN it was dismissed and I was basically told that I had an egg problem, and there was nothing wrong with their protocol, that it works for all of their egg donors so why wouldn't it work for me.

I went to UCSF for IVF #2.  They have pretty great SART stats.  It is a high volume "fertility mill" type place but I made instant friends with the lady at the front desk so it didn't feel too impersonal to me.  And the doctors really seem to be on the cutting edge of research; I saw Dr. F and really felt like he listened to my concerns, showed me relevant papers, etc, and we developed a plan tailored to my specific issue.  There were some issues with perennially late appointments (I often waited half an hour) but in the end it worked.

I'm so very sorry about the BFN, RPL.  I hope that you find the RE who is just the right fit for you, and develop a plan to get you your BFP next cycle.

    (((huge hugs)))

Severe MFI. Me: supposedly all clear but eggs showed vacuoles.

IVF #1 January 2012, ER Jan 14th: 34R, 27M, 23F. Day 3: 18 embies still strong. Day 5: zero "good," one "fair," the rest "poor." Transferred 3. None made it to blast or to freeze. Jan 28: BFN.

Lucky IVF #2: Transferred two beautiful day three embies on St. Patrick's Day. BFP on HPT 7dp3dt. Beta 1 (14dpER)=106; Beta 2 (16dpER)=140; Beta 3 (19dpER)=264! First u/s 4.17.

Thanks pretty lady.  I appreciate your well wishes.  How are you holding up?  It has a been a rough go for us so far in 2012, but we are in this fight to the end together and I am here for you if you need to ever vent those "really, again?" crummy feelings.

I am not at Thousand Oaks with Doctor B, but if I was...we would definitely need to meet up!  I am currently with a clinic in Northern California where the success rate is actually really good.  My clinic rates number six in California, which is assuring until you have two failed cycles, a depleted savings account, and a family member who generously contributed $10k is now negative $10k.  That sounds a little bitter, huh?  Damn.

Anyway, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing another cycle with this clinic even though I have loved them from day one.  I know we have to explore our options and right now we are strongly considering UCSD La Jolla and Portland.  Have you heard of Doctor Garzo at La Jolla?

I'm so sorry for your BFN.  If you're open to a variety of West Coast locations, look at North.ern California Fe.rtility Medic.al Ce.nter in Sacramento.  Several bumpies with a variety of IF dx have had success at this clinic. Best of luck!
