Snugride vs. Keyfit for narrowness????

Based on my research everyone was telling me that the Keyfit was the most narrow infant seat on the market.  They did not have dimensions online so I called them and they say it is 18" W with the base.  The Graco lists their seat with base at only 17.2"..........just wondering if anyone knows how accurate these dimensions are because I prefer Graco.  I had a Graco SafeSeat for my two boys and I loved it but it was ENORMOUS and I would not be able to fit 3 across with it (plus it is expiring).  They  no longer make that seat anymore though.
