My baby HATES ultrasounds.

So today as part of a study I'm doing we got to have a third ultrasound (well, this is our fourth, since baby boy refused to move during his growth scan and we needed a third one to get his heart chamber measurements...which he just barely allowed the second time we went in for them), and I was excited because it was a 3D one.

My H and I joked all the way to the appointment that we'd get crappy pics because our baby is notorious for either kicking dopplers, turning away from ultrasounds, or scruching up so we can't see anything.  It was a downright miracle that we got to find out he was a boy last time!

Tech puts on the gel and the wand, and says, oh good, I have a good view for pictures.  Well, good thing she started snapping away because not two minutes later baby found out what was up, and put both hands (they were gorgeous hands though!) completely over his face.  The tech jiggled my belly a bunch of times to try to get him to move his head so she could measure the other side, but he held in there and utterly refused, so she gave up completely.

As soon as the u/s was done? Back to kicking like crazy, just like normal!

this is exactly why i think they can feel/hear/something with the ultrasound, and people wonder if too many are bad for baby (especially in 1st tri).

There might be something to that, but he hates dopplers, too - kicks them all the time.  Good thing there aren't too many months left!

My baby does a similar thing whenever we try to videotape the belly movements!  She goes crazy, we turn on the flip camera, then nothing.  Turn off camera and the dance party starts again.

they're the same type of sound wave-length that is bouncing back, so that makes sense!

My baby hates them too. I'm high risk so I've had 5 ultrasounds so far, and I've yet to see his or her face. Always has the hands, and sometimes feet too, in front of his/her face! I guess some babies are just shy and don't want us to see how beautiful they are until they get here :-)

Ditto genkidesu. I've been openly mocked for pointing this kind of thing out so I just don't bother anymore.
