Burp cloths are one of the few small items we still need to pick up for the baby. Everything I've read and everyone I've talked to strongly recommends using the Gerber cloth diapers since they're a good size and super absorbent, so I figured I'd pick up a pack or two.
I can't find them ANYWHERE. I'm in Canada so we don't have a Target, but I've checked Walmart, Zellers, BRU, grocery store chains, drugstore chains...anywhere I can think of that carries baby stuff. I've looked online at cloth diaper retailers, but they don't sell the Gerber ones- just hemp/bamboo/organic unbleached cotton/etc, and I don't need something that expensive to mop up my kid's vomit. I checked Amazon, but the only ones I found there had such bad reviews regarding quality that they have stopped selling them temporarily.
I can't even find regular burp cloths (the cute patterned ones) in stores anymore. My mom suggested using cheapie receiving blankets, or even dish towels, but I was hoping to find something big and absorbent. What are you using for burp cloths? Is there something I'm not thinking of? Has anyone been able to find the Gerber diapers in stores?
Re: Burp cloths!
Yup! they have some great ones.
I bought Aden + Anais burp cloths off babysteals.com a few months ago. You could try the AA site to see if they ship to canada.
FTR here are the ones I bought (at half the price..)

Lots of luck to my Golden Girls
I agree. We've just used receiving blankets with DS and DD, and they worked perfectly well. Absorbency is nice, but really your LOs spit up will likely be just a little here and there, and not super barfs each time. I especially wouldn't go out of my way to find or order them if I was having a hard time to find them. There are lots of perfectly use-able alternatives.
I never used burp cloths for DS, I never needed them. I used receiving blankets and the few burp cloths I did get on the changing table, that way if there was a big blow out I would just pull off the receiving blanket and put on a new one instead of having to constantly change the changing pad cover.
I'm also from Canada. I ordered all my stuff on amazon.com then went across the border to pick up. Amazon.ca just started to carry baby stuff, although it's limited.. I would check there. Yuu only have to spend $25 and then they will ship it for free.
You could also order some off of etsy.com and most of the stores will ship to canada. plus then you can get something a little more original.
After hearing on here that I should have 24 burp clothes (!), I ordered two packs of these cloth diapers from Amazon. I washed them in the washing machine and gave them to a co-worker who loves to sew along with some great flannel I picked up.

He's putting a strip of the flannel down the middle for a fun addition. We can use them for burp clothes, spill wipers, changing clothes, etc. I'll keep a few in the car, one in each diaper bag and the rest on the changing table.
It's the bottom cloth in the picture-the white diaper with the green polka dot flannel.

I did this. I purchased some old flannel sheets from a second hand store, washed them a couple of times and did a few cuts into them of the sizes I wanted. Cost me all of three bucks!
