for those who admit to peeing the bed..please help!

I haven't peed the bed yet but I know it is coming. It is either going to be that or my water is going to break. Either way I'm looking at a serious mess on a brand new mattress. So what can I do to help? I don't mind washing the sheets and mattress pad cover, but neither one are waterproof so I'm going to need some sort of barrier. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can put underneath of me, between the sheet and the mattress pad in the off chance it ever happens?

  • My water broke while I was in bed asleep with DS.  I had a pad on and a blue pad from the doctor (I think they call them billy pads) and I was able to get to the bathroom before anything came out.  I have also heard of people putting shower curtain liners under their sheets if you are really concerned.  Of course, most people will say you won't pee or your water won't break (it only happens in 15 percent of all labors) but it is always nice to have that peace of mind.  Also, depending on how much amniotic fluid you have it could be a small leak or a big gush.  GL.

  • If you have any new Mom friends, they may have some of those blue pee-pee pads they give you in the hospital.  I took a whole stack and only used a couple.  I would put one under the mattress pad, if you are concerned.

But honestly, I never peed the bed and my water didn't break until I was at the hospital and probably at 5-6cms.

  • Why not just buy a waterproof mattress pad?
  • BTW- No expereince with wetting the bed but this little girl sure does think my bladder is a soccer ball/punching bag so I won't rule it out.
  • They make waterproof covers. But it you're looking or a cheap easy fix. Go pick up some puppy pee pads. Slip them under, and they'll help catch some of it.

  • I recently saw a commercial for kids that wet the bed. They have what look like the pee pads for dogs, but they adhere to the sheets. That's what I plan to use when it's gets closer to my EDD

     ETA: They are Goodnights brand

  • Odds are that your water won't break in a huge gush that will ruin your bed.  With my DS, my water broke when I was asleep on the sofa and none of it got on the sofa. Only my underwear/PJ pants were wet and I was able to get to the bathroom before more came out.  I wouldn't even worry about it, to be honest.

  • I recently read someone suggesting putting one of those outdoor vinyl tablecloths under the sheet on your side of the bed instead of spending money on a waterproof mattress cover

  • I pee the baby occationally I'll sneeze or cough or LO will kick my bladder and its over I have found that those pads like puppy training pads but for people my mom calls them chucks?

You need to get a really good mattress pad.  I'm told that amniotic fluid does not smell -- until it has dried.  And you will never get the smell out of the mattress.  And if you have dogs, they will rip apart said mattress because of that smell (in many cases).  So just get a really decent mattress pad and you should be okay.

Oh, and water breaking is nothing at all like peeing the bed!

  • I just had this happen a few days ago.  We went to the CVS (Rite Aid or local pharmacy like store) and got some changing pads.  You will find them with the pads and the Depends.  I put like 3 of them under the sheet on my side of the bed and I sleep on a towel lol.
