Cloth Diapering

Laundry Detergent- do you make your own?

Just checking to see if anyone on here has made their own laundry detergent and been able to use it on their cloth diapers. The laundry soap I currently make has castile soap, borax, super washing soda, and baking soda in it. I read that you aren't supposed to use borax on cloth diapers, so I was wondering if anyone out there has had any luck with making and using their own laundry soap without any buildup or absorbency issues.

Thanks!

  •  Baby is not here yet, but I do make my own laundry soap (powdered, not liquid).  I have a friend who does the same, but will NOT use her homemade stuff on CD.  She has used several different kinds of laundry soap for CD, but she likes the Country Save brand best for CDs for both the way it cleans and the price.  I plan on using the same when LO comes.

  • I've used the Eco Friendly Family blog recipe - 2 parts washing soda, 2 parts borax, 1 part oxiclean. Rumor has it that actual soaps (like castille) cause build up and repelling. I had no particular problems with the EFF recipe, but I tried soap nuts and felt like things were cleaner, so now I'm mostly using those.

I have looked at the ingredients list of several cloth diaper specific detergents, and I find they're usually pretty similar to the EFF recipe - like the one I looked at today was washing soda, oxiclean, borax, and then a bit of coconut oil soap and fragrance. All listed by chemical name, but that's what it was.
