Possibly really dumb question re :Teethers...

I was talking to my friend and mentioned to her that I wanted to get CC a Sophie teether because she just can't keep anything out of her mouth these days to rub on her gums. She has teethers already but the soft gel kind that you put in the fridge. I think they are to soft for her liking because she'll choose sucking on my knuckle or the edge of one of her toys over one of her soft teethers if given the option...

Anyway my friend said oh I'll give you my Sophie. She said her son didn't care for it. However it was a hand me down from another friend of ours and I know for a fact HER son used it...

So my dumb question is : Is Sophie a teether that can be passed between babies? As in, is she non porous so a good wash with soap and water makes her like brand new to CC? Or is it a deal breaker because Sophie has already previously been slobbered on ??

Thoughts, please and thank you!

  • I think of Sophie as a very personal item. I'm not even passing my DS's down to my new son. I got him a new one.

  • A traditional teether I'd never use a hand me down of because they're soft and porous, and therefore can't really be disinfected...but I am not familiar with Sophie so I have no idea if she's a hard toy I can soak in a bleach solution for cleanliness or not, so that's why I posed the question so I could get more info on her ...

Seems like the consensus is she is a soft porous toy that I cannot comepletely disinfect...

  • Sophie can be wiped down, but it has a squeaker and therefore an air hole - if you get water in it, the squeaker will die (and the inside is not really cleanable).  It's also not hard - it's softer than the ones you put in the fridge/freezer.

Thanks for the clarification, I appreciate it  !

I guess I will be buying CC her own Sophie.

You could also try just ice in a mesh bag if she is looking for something harder to chew on - DD never really got into Sophie (I think it was too soft for her), so I'm glad it was a gift!
