Irritable Uterus

I made a trip to L&D yesterday because I had not felt baby girl move very much, if at all and I had been having a ton of BH. Turns out that the babies are fine (thank goodness!), but that I have an irritable uterus. Cervix was still high, long and closed (another thank goodnes!)

I asked a couple questions about the irritable uterus, but am looking to here from you ladies about your experiences. If you had a lot of BH early, did you still deliver 34+ weeks? I had contractions early with DS1 and delivered at 38w, so I think everything will be okay.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Irritable Uterus

  • I started having BH/irritable uterus contractions at 18 weeks, went on BR at 24 weeks and delivered 2 healthy girls at 34w5d! (I didn't go into labor, but had low fluid and baby A had her face against my cervix instead of the top of her head.) Both girls had a 9 day NICU stay as feeders and growers.

My cervix never significantly changed due to the irritability. I did dilate to 2cm at 30 weeks but I felt like it was more because of the weight of the babies! GL to you for a long and uneventful pregnancy!

  • WIth my dd I had BH starting at 20 weeks snd was on bed rest from 33-36 weeks. I dilated to a three at 33 weeks... But then we kicked her out at 39 and 2 because I was 100 miles from the hospital.

This time I started with BH at 14 weeks. At 18 weeks my cervix was super long and closed, so they said they'd watch me closely, but not to worry too much about it. I always listen to my body when it tells me to sit and rest and drink water though, and that helps me a lot. Good luck!!!

  • I've been dealing with this since week 25 and only just now, at 30 weeks have I started to even have minor change to my cervix (still high, but softening and just barely open). I attribute the changes to my work (on my feet all day) and the sheer weight of my girls. My OB seems to think that, now that I've stopped working, I should have no problem going 34+ weeks.

Stay hydrated and take it easy as much as you can :)

  • I was diagnosed with irritable uterus at around 26 weeks.  It didn't create any other issues and I was just told to stay hydrated.  I went into labor at 35w1d but it had nothing to do with that!  GL!

  • I had an irritable uterus and basically had constant BH contractions from 28 weeks on. NSTs showed they weren't "doing" anything. I had a CS at35w4d, but that was bc my BP spiked, otherwise I could have gone longer.

Had this from 28 weeks on...kept me overnight twice in hosp at 28 and 32 weeks just to monitor but never made changes to my cervix. Delivered my boys when my water broke at 38 weeks. I took things pretty easy from 33 weeks on!
  • I had PTL and irritable uterus from 22w1d on. I spent 7 weeks on hospital bedrest then about 7 more on bedrest at home. It took lots of tocolytics along with the bedrest but I didn't deliver until 36w0d.
After 20 months TTC with PCOS, we were blessed with twins!
They arrived at 36 weeks after PTL and bedrest for 14 weeks. Lilypie Third Birthday tickers image

  • I've had bh/irritable uterus since 17 weeks. Only time it's a big deal is if you have cervical changes. It's really annoying but less activity and increased fluid intake helps.

  • I was told I had an irritable uterus at about 28 weeks.  BHs were a killer for the last part of my pregnancy!  I delivered at 35 weeks for reasons unrelated to the BHs.

  • I had constant BH from 20 weeks on. My OB put me on Prodcardia to ease them and pulled me out of work at 28 weeks. The BH never affected my cervix and I made it to almost 38 weeks.

  • 1st time MoM but not first time mommy ;)  I was diagnosed with IU three pregnancies ago all you can do is rest as much as u can, stay hydrated and if the contractions start up call your ob asap because they can start to change your cervix over time.  Glad all is well.
