My hospital visit and the lesson I learned...

So, I spent last night in the hospital.  I started getting really strange pains on my left side around 7:00. I started chugging water and thought maybe it was just the way my baby was laying.  However, the pain worsened to the point that I couldn't get comfortable in any position. I also began to notice a tiny bit of blood in my urine.  Long story short, I called my Ob, she had me go to hospital for testing and it turned out to be an inflammation of both kidneys, and that baby was just fine. I had to get an Iv and antibiotic.

My husband joked that it was a practice run for the big day when baby comes.  He did a good job walking me to the bathroom with my Iv pump every 15 minutes!

But the lesson we learned....keep your gas tank full!!:).  We were on E when we left.  We only have a 15 minute drive and made it but if there was any traffic or construction set-back, we would have been in trouble.  Yes, it seems like common sense but common sense has escaped me these days!!

I'm feeling a lot better, thanks, still have some pain but I'm drinking water like I'm getting paid for it so I think that is helping.

My dh is out getting my prescriptions...one of which is a painkiller.  I'm going to hold out on using it, but if the pain gets worse..you can better believe I'll be taking it:)

  • I'm glad your LO is alright and you are being treated. I hope you feel better soon.

Good tip about the gas tank! I didn't even think of that.

  • Sorry you had a scary day and kidney problems, but glad baby is okay and you are on the mend!  That's a good point about the gas tank....never would have thought about it.  Fortunately, we're literally less than a mile from the hospital, but it never hurts to be prepared!

  • I never would have thought to keep the gas tank full. I am the type that hates to get gas and drive around with the little gas tank lite up way too long. So thanks for the tip, we won't be going below half from now on. We have at least a 20 minute ride without traffic.
