Okay so I can't come up with a girl name and hubby has his mind set on Dagny as in Dagny Taggart from Atlas Shrugged. I'm not into it but I can't come up with a better suggestion. DD wants to name her Molly after her favorite Bubble Guppy and DS is content with calling her Baby.
Best I can come up with is Madeline (as in Ludwig Bemelmans's children's books) but Maddy and Addy are to matchy for my taste.
Any thoughts or suggestions for girl names would be greatly appreciated. DD is named Addison and DS is Lucas if that helps at all.
Re: Thoughts on Dagny?
Dagny doesn't sound like a real name to me.
What about Daphne?
Love Molly though!

I have never heard of this name and honestly thought it was for a little boy, not girl. Based on Addison and Lucas, my suggestions would be: Ella, Isabelle, Olivia, Eleanor, Julia, Reese, Emma, Katherine, or Samantha.
There's just something about names with two "hanging" letters (y,g,j,p,q) that bugs me.

Saddling your kid with a name that carries such strong ideological connotations, especially an ideology that she may very well grow up to find objectionable (as many people do with Ayn Rand), is a really bad idea.
That aside, it's just not a very attractive name.
i think Dagny is kinda cute- i like it.
Daphne is nice too
some other girl names that were on our list before we found out we're having a boy
Dinah, Breena, Maya, Freja (Freya)...
I agree with other posters that it is not an objectively attractive name. And, FWIW, I immediately think of Ayn Rand and her controversial philosophy when I hear the name. I think anyone who has read/is familiar with the books will immediately think of that and will have a strong (often negative) reaction.
What about Francesca (fem version of Francisco in AS) or Gayle or Dominique (from Fountainhead)?
Also, we considered Ayn for a middle name. You can see if your husband will go for that if you find a first name more to your taste.
I like Dagny, but I don't know why. It's got the same feel as Daphne but without the stigma of scooby doo.
You must all be book people? Love it!
I actually kind of like Dagny. It's not really our "style" and I wouldn't use it, but I like the sound of it and I wouldn't side-eye it on someone else's kid.
Molly is cute; I like Madeline (that pronunciation), but I'm sooo over Maddy, and I agree that Addy and Maddy is waaaay too matchy.
I like PP suggestion of Daphne, but I actually think Dagny fits your sibset better. It's actually a very similar style to Addison.
I'm not keen on Dagny. In Australia the bit of poo that clings to a sheep's arse is called a dag. That's what it makes me think of. (Sorry, I don't mean to be rude).
PP suggested Daphne which I think is a really good alternative.
This. My DH loves Dagny for the same reason.
Wow, I was just about to post a similar question. I LOVE the name Dagny. I like the way it sounds, what it means and the fact that is so unique. Besides, I also like Ayn Rand, but the name Dagny is great in itself besides the fact that the main character in AS has that name. To me, the name sounds strong and confident.
I am expecting a daughter in September and I am very, very tempted with the name (husband loves it too). But when I tell people about it, they immediately suggest Daphne (wich annoys me to be honest, it's a completely different name). Looks like the name is "too hard to spell" (really?), "too unique" and somebody even said "not cute enough for a princess" (I have NO intention to raise a princess). That being said, I don't want to burden my child with a name that people are too stupid or ignorant to know or understand; and will cause her to be an object of mock and bullying.
Reading the answers here makes me a little sad, as I'll have to move on and pick a different name. You are probably feeling the same way.
I'll still love that name to death
Good luck and congrats on your daughter!
My goddaughter's name is Dagny (also named after the character in Atlas Shrugged) and I love her name. When my friend first told me what she was planning to name her daughter I wasn't too keen on it (reminded me of Dagwood Bumstead from the Blondie comics) but I can't picture another name on her now! It really suits her.
It's also Norse for "new day," which is beautiful.
My friend told me she often has to explain that her kid's name is Dagny, not Daphne or Danny, especially over the phone.
