weight ... stressing!

Okay I know we've had several posts but I need to get some reassurance. Pre-pregnancy I was 205lbs which was overweight and I know that. I am now at 231ish. Each day it's different even when I weigh at same time b4 I eat without clothes on etc. I feel like I am putting on too much the frustrating thing is I don't even eat that much bc I am never hungry! When I do eat it's not usually much and its not usually junk. Idk am I stressing for nothing? I am SCARED to death of my baby being too big. Just need some reassurance

Re: weight ... stressing!

  • The amount you gained doesn't seem like anything to worry about?!?! Have you been going to an Ob/midwife? Have they said anything?

  • Have you talked to your doctor/midwife about your concerns and the baby's measurements so far (which aren't necessarily accurate, of course)? Fluctuations in weight happen due to water and sodium, so weighing yourself every day at the same time doesn't ensure that your weight won't be really up and down. Try to get in some extra walks and veggies. You'll be fine.

  • I'm in the same boat.  My dr. last week said," well, just slow down a bit."  I wanted to puke because I hadn't done anything different in the last few weeks.  I think there are just major changes at this point.  Yet, in the beginning I had trouble gaining anything and now it's packing on like no one's business!  She said everything was on track.  We'll see!

  • I wouldnt be too worried if your OB isnt saying anything to you about it, but if your overly concerned you can definatly ask them and get their opinion on it.

Thus far I have gained only 16lbs this pregnancy and my OB told me last time she was only concerned with my weight gain because she could tell I had put on a lot of water weight because I had been swelling so bad.  She said its not normal to put on so much water weight, but she said it is incredibly common in the last trimester and all it meant was that they would need to monitor me and make sure my BP was staying normal which it is.

If your concerned though talk to your OB they are there for your to voice any worries or concerns to and they are most generally really great about addressing any of those concerns with you.

  • Thanks ladies. I plan on talking to Ob Monday. You all are so encouraging!

I would just mention it to your doc.  :)

  • I have almost the same stats as you - prepreg 208 and now 225.  My doctor really didn't seem concerned about what I've gained, though I still stress about it.  If you keep up with good nutrition, the weight gain's not that big of a deal.

  • I weighed more than you when I got pregnant, and I've gained 15 lbs thus far. This last week I put on a pound and change ... but keep in mind that if you're constipated, have water retention, any extra swelling, etc, will add weight. Your LO is going to grow about 6 oz every week during the last few weeks, so your weight should shoot up rapidly now, but its completely normal, and when LO is born, you'll lose it all at once!

At this point I thought we were "supposed" to gain a pound a week. Unless they say something, fear not.

  • I think you're obsessing over nothing. Your weight will fluctuate up to a few pounds every day when you aren't pregnant, let alone when you're growing a baby.  If your weight gain or the baby's size was an issue, your doctor would've said something to you by now.  Also, keep in mind that the total you've gained isn't all baby there's a lot of other things to factor in like the weight of the placenta, fluid, extra blood volume in your body, etc.
