rash?

at what point would you have a rash checked out by a pedi?  I noticed a rash around DDs neck last night.  She was super sweaty and dirty, so I thought maybe that was the cause and gave her a bath and figured I would see if it improved by the time she woke up.  It did, but only a little, so I gave her some Benadryl.  It's just really red and there are no little bumps, but the red area is raised.  She says it itches and it's across the bottom of her hairline and down a little on one side of her neck.  Any thoughts or experiences you can share?  Thabks!

Re: rash?

  • I've been told by pedi that if I press on the rash and it turns white, it is probably not serious.  I would prob just make sure she is comfy and keep an eye on it.

  • Think about if she was exposed to anything new. If nothing comes to mind I would watch and take in after a few days.

  • my daughter has always had a lot of hair...she has always had sensitive skin and the poor lil thing is only 19 months.  I have also noticed a red rash like area just below her hair line on the back of her neck.  Knowing that she has such sensitive skin, I put her hair up and off her neck and apply hydrocortisone to it, and within a day its gone.  If I leave her hair down when its warm out, not only does she seem to break out, but it apparently itches, because it looks like she scratches it to a point where it bleeds a little. I would try that and see how it reacts.  If the redness goes away and ur child stops itching thats probably all it is.  If you have a son, I would cut his hair really short in the back for the summer months to give that area some breathable room, and less irritation.  Let me know if this works?!  ~Tara
