Negative Reactions?!

Just had to share that I'm disappointed with how many negative reactions I've been receiving when I'm sharing our pregnancy news!  Too many people have horrible comments about how we are "torturing" ourselves with children so close in age...most of them from people who also have kiddos close!  FWIW- I've noticed most of them have come from working moms who say how horrible it was for them even though "they were able to escape to the office every day" (their words not mine) and they are just convinced it will be even worse for me as a SAHM.

What happened to just saying "Congratulations"???

Re: Negative Reactions?!

  • We've had a lot of people tell us we'll have our hands full. With both #2 and #3 my in-laws have not showed any excitement. My SIL was even upset and rude with us. I think we've only heard the words "Congratulations" a few times. At least my side of the family is used to having kids close in age, so they were excited for us.

I feel ya on this one. Not really any of mine or my husband's family have been excited. It made me feel instanlty like we made a mistake. Of course my DH is so reasonable and was like "screw them, we are happy". I just think its really hard when those you are closest to can only find negativity in your happiness.

To top it off we don't have any supportive family with the LO we do have. They were all so excited about us having him, yet no one EVER comes to see him or calls to check on him. We live 3 houses down from my cousin and we haven't seen her in over six months.

  • We had a lot of mixed reactions when we announced as well.  Our immediate family new #2 was a surprise, but nobody else did.  I've even had nurses tell us that we are crazy.  I just try to ignore it.  It was hard at first because even we were unsure of what we were getting into, but we couldn't change it so we are just trying to prepare the best we can.  Now when people give us negative comments we just say we know the first year or so will probably be really hard, but we are confident the girls will be the best of friends too.

  • I had to say to many people "I think the word you were looking for was 'Congratulations'." Then I'd walk away. Babies bring out the stupid and the rude in people for sure.
