TTC After a Loss

Waiting room hell

Just returned from my pre-op appointment before my scheduled D&C on Monday and I had to sit in a waiting room full of pregnant women and babies for 45 minutes because they were running behind.  It was all I could do not to start crying while sitting there.  And all of the magazines in the waiting area are baby or parenting related- which I don't get as the magazines in the exam rooms are all the US Weeklys and People magazines.  I really like my OB practice- great doctors, nurses etc, but I feel like every time I am there it is related to something negative.  Sigh.

  • Oh, I am so sorry. I've been there too and remember how close I was to a full-on panic attack. I had my iPhone literally in front of my face reading this board to keep me from losing it. Sending you lots of hugs right now.

  • I think we have all had to sit there, and I am sure each and everyone of us has had the same thought..."why is there not a separate waiting room?"  It truely is just like rubbing salt in a wound.  I am so sorry you had to sit there.  ((HUGS))

I can't remember which board I saw this on, or who posted it. But this was someone's brilliant idea for a waiting room for loss momma's:

    An open bar

    Sushi

    Selection of soft cheeses

A wall for throwing things at

I think it's a brilliant idea and I try to hold that image in my head while I'm in my OB's waiting room. I'm so sorry you're going through this. Trust me, you are not alone.

This is brilliant!  To whom do we make the pitch?

  • So sorry. I remember the day after i gave birth to and lost my baby I had to first get up and go the funeral home to plan his funeral then go to the OB office for blood work. The atmosphere was the same as you described and all the nurses wanted to chat so happily. I had was in total shock and had just planned where to bury my baby and then i was sitting in a room full of newborns with some one talking to me about how beautiful the weather was!

  • I am so sorry.  I hate the OB waiting room.  It is the most stressful, panic inducing place in the world for me.

  • ((((HUGS)))) They should definitely have separate waiting rooms. I remember someone on here once said there should be a wine and sushi bar in the waiting room for all the non-KU ladies there. And something about really hot waiters serving you.

ETA: Should have read all the responses! Great minds think alike.

  • I know exactly how painful that is.  At my follow up appointment after my D&E, I was sitting with pregnant ladies on either side of me with no "non-baby related" magzines in sight!  I also looked around at the other people wondering if they too were expecting and just not showing yet.  I teared up and texted with my husband about how hard it was to be there.

  • I tear up every time I go to my OBGYNs office.  The last tie I was there to talk about things unrelated to TTC I had my hair in braids and a backpack because I was on my way to school and I was tearing up.  This dude next to me just stared the enitre time-  I'm sure he thought I was a desperate pregnant teenager or something.
