Toddlers: 24 Months+

Would you say anything?

I am thinking this is more a "mind your own business" thing but I feel bad for the kid involved.  I also don't know the current law for this so...yeah.

Background info:  I have a facebook friend that I went to high school with.  She comments on my posts ALL.THE.TIME - always positive and nice remarks.  I don't think I have ever commented on her posts.  We were not that close in high school and she actually dated my DH in hs.

So, she has a little boy who just turned 3 in March and she keeps posting pictures of him in his booster seat.  Like, regular old booster with a seat belt and he is always leaning sideways or forward being silly.  Is this even legal?  She always posts about what a peanut he is so he can't weigh enough.  I don't know what the age is before it is "okay" because we have decided to 5pt harness for as long as possible so I haven't looked into it.  I just feel like she is doing her DS a disservice.  I am giving her the benefit of the doubt and thinking that she just doesn't know that this can be dangerous for him.  She seems like a good mom so she just may not know he really should still be in a car seat.

That is the only reason why I want to say something - I think if she was made aware, that may change her mind.  She may just be thinking that this is a good option for him.  However, I don't know how you could say something without making her mad.  Would you say something or MYOB?

  • Let her parent how she chooses too.  I would mind my own business.

  • I would MYOB.  I totally get what you're saying, because what if they got into an accident, but it's her own business.

  • I wouldn't say anything directly to her but maybe since you know she reads your posts put something about your own car seats.  Like maybe "went to look at getting a new car seat for LO and found out the law is 4yrs AND 40lbs, guess we'll have another year of the harness".  Don't know if it will work but it is then about you, not her.

  • Not your business.

Also, I think when it comes to posture, the times you take pics of your kid in your car seat aren't necessarily the times when you have them strapped in like you would normally.

  • MYOB, your not friends.  There are backless boosters weighted for 30 pounds.  I used them when I travel sometimes.  Just ship them to our destination.  Not the safest, but not the illegal, at least not in the places I have used them.
  • I'd find the link to the new recommendations and just say "FYI to all moms and dads of kids under 8"
  • I mind my business.  I have a friend who has had her 3 year old in a booster since he was 2.  He is a very big boy, but I wouldn't be comfortable.  She also has had her DD forward facing since she was 5 months old.  I said something about that.  She knew it wasn't legal, but didn't want flip the seat.
