Maternity Leave

When does everyone plan on going on leave? I have a leave at work that I can get up to six  months off, if we could afford it I would take the whole six months but I plan on taking the full 12 weeks off after baby comes but trying to debate how close to due date I will work....week of? two weeks before or even a month? I have a daughter at home that will be turning 2 may 7 so thats why Im debating taking off early.

Re: Maternity Leave

  • I asked my Dr. that today, and she said from what she has seen, between 34-36 weeks seems to be average. She also said it depends on what we do for a living and how strenuous our jobs are. She would like to see me on leave around 34 weeks because I work as a nurse assistant, and I can't care for patients as well as I used to. Hope this helps!

This helps alot thanks:) I am a nurse assistant as well! Im starting to feel like I am not able to do my job as well as I did before. I feel bad but I dont have as much patience as I used to and it doesnt help trying to squeeze in these small rooms with a big belly!

  • I was all set to work to the end. My school lets out one week before I'm due. But the fatigue and swelling is getting to me big time and I am ready to tap out now. At my appt next wednesday I am going to ask for a note saying I can take the last two weeks off. That would have me working until week 37. I'm returning at the usual school starting time so I'm only taking 2 months off after LO is born.

  • DD was born at 41 weeks and two days I worked up until the day she was born and plan to do the same this time.  I only get 12 weeks per FMLA and I want to spend them with DS if I go out early I will have to miss time with my new baby.  I work in PR so most of the time I am at a desk. I stopped plane travel at 30 weeks and I will stop local trips longer than two hours at around 35 weeks or so.

This is what I plan on doing. It is our first and I want to spend as much time with him as I can before going back to work, and as of right now I'm looking at only taking 8-10 weeks off. I sit at a desk all day though, and they're ok with me getting up every hour to walk to the bathroom or just stretch my legs, so I think I'll be ok going until the end.

  • My plan is to work until he comes.  Granted I am now on half days from home due to early labor signs until 36 weeks.  At 36 weeks I plan to go back to full days at the office until I just simply can't take it anymore or I go into labor.  I have the ability to use 12 weeks, however I hope to just be out 8 weeks and I'd prefer those 8 weeks be spent with LO and not waiting on him.  Also the timing of my due date of June 7 is the day before the last day of school so if I can make it all the way then my DDs will be able to stay home with me the entire maternity leave before I have to worry about their childcare when I go back to work.  We timed this baby so very well without even knowing it...just hoping to make it as close to my due date as possible for ease of timing.

  • I'm done on May 5, I know it's early but my job is so physical I'm really struggling to keep up, I can't wait!! I would give myself at least a week if I were you, have some relax time before baby comes :)

  • I'm planning to stop working on May 18 at around 37.5 weeks. NJ allows us up to four weeks before our due date on temporary disability and it has no effect on the amount of time we get post-delivery. I plan to take 12-14 weeks off after the baby comes, though by law I can take 16 (but not all of the 16 will be paid, which is why I won't likely take the full amount).

  • My company has two different types of leave "anticipated disability" (up to six months before giving birth) and Care of Newborn (up to 12 months after baby is born).  I am leaving work 2 weeks before my edd and staying out for a year after she is born.  I was going to stay until I went into labor - but I am getting too tired!

  • I have a pretty easy desk job, and was going to work until the end.  Until I was out on modified bed rest at 27 weeks (and worked from home) and them hospitalized at 29 weeks, at which point I gave up and went on disability.  I get up to 5 months off after the baby, regardless of what I do before, not all of which is paid.  Technically fmla only covers me 12 weeks, but my employer is very (afraid of lawsuits?) generous with holding jobs.  Plus my division is already hiring a few other people for the same position so it would be a while before they would be able to replace me.  :)

  • I plan to work up until delivery.  At this point I'm still feeling really good and not finding work exhausting. I am taking 8 weeks of maternity leave, and I want to take that leave after baby comes. Although my company is giving me up to 12 weeks off, only the first four weeks are at 100% salary; then it's 50% the next four weeks, and unpaid the last four. I'm trying to minimize how much unpaid time off I'm taking.
  • I am working until I go into labor.  I have to use all my PTO first (:P), which is about 2.5 weeks, then I have Short Term Deniability  (FMLA maternity leave) for 12 weeks.  So 14.5 weeks ain't so bad.

If Lo comes at the end of May, then I don't expect to be back until that first week in September.

  • I'm working until the end but my last day in the office is May 18th (end of week 37) We all (including boss) feel more comfortable with me being home and closer to the hospital the closer it gets.

  • I'm working up until 37-38 weeks. I haven't decided just yet. I'd like to have some time at home to spend with DS as well as to tie up a few loose ends before baby comes.

  • I'm a closing shift supervisor at wendy's so it's a very manual job, lots of hands on work, lots of moving and bending and crouching. I've been using a pedometer during workdays to see how much i walk during a shift, i'm averaging about 5 miles a shift. so i move a lot. My last day was yesterday and i couldn't be happier. now i have enough time to focus on finishing up my classes, and getting ready to move. she' s due in June, we're moving in july. im 33weeks and 5 days.
