So I had my first childbirth class the other night, and the nurse running it suggested that we all bring "focal points" for during labor. Her suggestions were a teddy bear, ultrasound pics, vacation pics, or something we're looking forward to after delivery.
Umm, is it bad if my focal point is a nice Sangiovese?
I'm kind of at a loss as to what to bring. My best idea so far, I guess, is a picture of my grandmother who we're naming the baby after. Thought is that she was even smaller than I am and older than I am when she gave birth to my mother (who was a surprise) and with not as sophisticated medical care: if she can do it, so can I. Other thoughts are a picture of our dog or a picture from our honeymoon. I don't really know what will be motivational here . . . I haven't had an ultrasound since week 20, so it doesn't look like much so I can't see staring at that across the room will be that helpful. Not like some of those fancy later 3D ones that some of you ladies have.
So, what, if anything, are you all bringing?
Re: Focal Point?
I think DH's face will be enough of a focus point for me... we thought about stuff... but pictures just don't do much for me to focus on an ending point... our class also said a spot on the celing could do the same thing... so take lots of things...
a six pack of Mike's Strawberry Hard Lemonade
but seriously I hadn't planned on bringing anything, however I like your idea about the picture of baby's namesake. we're naming baby after DH's grandfather, maybe i'll do the same thing.
