how many swaddles and sleep sacks?

How many swaddles and sleep sacks are you planning to have? Are these something that gets dirtied every night or more, or can you use the same one for a few nights if stays clean??

And how many for which sizes? Small is 0-6 mo and Medium is 6-12. Thanks! I don't want to over-do it, but I want to buy as many as we might need while they are on sale!

Re: how many swaddles and sleep sacks?

  • I bought the aden + anais swaddles in a pack of four.  I figure that will be enough.  That way you won't have to do laundry all the time.  I imagine can probably use them more than one night as long as baby doesn't spit up on them or something.

I'm a first time mom, so I don't have the experience.  But I figure I'll buy more later if I see the need.

I know some women say they do well with just two.  One for baby and one in the wash.

  • I used the swaddles with the velcro with DD and always had 2-3 in each size. Since she was wearing jammies or a onsie underneath it, I did use them a couple nights in a row before washing. Unless there was a blowout or leaky diaper, then having a back up was always great. We bought girlie ones last time, which DH won't reuse with DS, so I would recommend buying them as gender neutral as possible if you plan on having more children. The ones we have from DD are in pretty much perfect condition, so I'm gonna save them for our #3 or give them away to a friend or family member if the have a DD.

Where did you find them in a 4 pack?  Ive only seen 8 packs for $35 and that is over kill!

To the OP, it depends on your kid really.  If they are ones that spit up a ton, you'll use a lot.  My kids RARELY ever spit up so we only needed 2-3 and did laundry every couple days or so.

  • I'm a FTM.  I'm starting with 3.  2 my sister handed down and we'll get one at the hospital.  I won't buy anymore until we know if baby likes to be swaddled. I have 2 nieces...1 hated being swaddeld and 1 loved it.

I got a four pack on Babysteals a few weeks back but they still weren't super cheap. I always think that the hospital ones are the best size if you're swaddling that way.

We have some cotton ones and some fleece ones from DD#1 that are Summer Infant brand with the velcro. I think we have 3-4 each of those.

Hahahaha, I'd like to ask where you found them in an 8 pack for that price, because I paid more for my four pack!  But I live in Canada...if you are in the U.S. shopping is way cheaper there!  I should have planned a trip to the states before the baby is born.

You can get a 4 pack on amazon.com, but it sounds like the 8 pack you found is a better deal anyway.  You could always keep half and give the other half as gifts.

  • I'm a FTM here, so I have no idea.  We currently have 8 A+A blankets, two Miracle Blankets, one Swaddleme, & one Halo Sleepsack.  I've only ever seen 4 packs in the A+A blankets.

  • We have four A + A, two SwaddleMe and about four or five receiving blankets which we'll also use for swaddling.

  • We have about a million receiving blankets from when Micah was a baby.  Those are great for the first few weeks while he's still tiny.  Then, we have 4 A+A blankets.  Personally, 4 is more than I think we need (we only have 2 for Micah), but I got them from Target and they only came in a pack of 4.  Plus, the blankets we get in the hospital are larger and last longer than the regular receiving blankets.  That should be more than enough.  We do have one sleep sack or something, but I never used it with Micah--the blankets were so much better!  Micah still sleeps with his A+A blankets, though we stopped swaddling him around 9 months.
  • With my first child, I used the Carter brand swaddle blankets and they worked okay.  I had about 12.  With my second, I discovered A&A and bambino brand on babysteals and we have about 12-16. They are wonderful - especially in the summer months!  Overkill I know but it worked out well b/c my son had severe reflux so we went through several a day.  Just ordered some 'girlie' muslin swaddle blankets tonight from baby steals since my other ones are gender neutral or boyish.

Around 4-5 mos, my babies don't like the swaddle and we switch to sleep sacks.  i have 2 A&A sacks and some halo sacks - about 2-3 in each size. Suggest gender neutral colors because you can definitely reuse for other chidlren.
