Does it always mean MSPI, or could it be another food intolerance? DD has always been fussy and an excessive spitter. She also has slow weight gain. We had her stool tested at her 2 month check up and it was negative so our pedi said she'd grow out of the fussiness and the spitting. When we went in today for her shots she had a really yucky looking diaper so the nurse tested it and it was positive for blood. I'm waiting for a call from the doc but I'm just curious about your experiences with food intolerance in your BF baby.

I've only ever heard of it linked to mspi but I don't know about other allergies. Our dd has dairy and wheat sensitivities but never had any blood, spit up problems, or terrible fussiness. Only horrible eczema, gas and sleeping trouble. This food allergy world is terribly confusing!
Dr.Timothy Ashley said that Broadly, bright red blood in stool comes from bleeding low in the GI tract (large intestine or rectum), or sometimes from rapid upper GI bleeding.
DS had blood associated with dairy/soy allergies. He also vomited all the time too before he was diagnosed at 3 weeks with the stool sample. They are the most common allergies/intolerances in infants.
My pedi thought the blood in my sons stool wasn't anything to worry about. Turns out he has ulcers all over in his colon. Now the doctors have no idea how to treat it. His case is pretty extreme but better to rule out everything and get tests done so you know for sure. Good Luck.
