This is exactly how I felt when I was PG with DS. I was super nervous about having a vaginal delivery but thought that was the way I wanted to go. The thought of getting an epidural scared the crap out of me, but I know I was too big of a baby to not have pain meds. Then 5 weeks before DS was born, my friend had a scheduled c-section, because she is small and they thought the baby was over 9 lbs. Turns out her doctor just really likes to do c-sections, baby was only 8lbs 1 oz. She had such a great experience with her c/s and fast recovery, I actually went in and asked my doctor about doing an elective c/s. My doc said no, she didn't believe in doing c/s unless it was medically necessary. My experience with my vaginal delivery was amazing. I had great nurses, didn't even feel them put in the epidural, and pushed for about an hour and a half, but it didn't seem long at all. I wouldn't change my experience at all. I did have a bad tear, but my recovery was easy and I never took any pain meds stronger than Tylenol or Ibuprofen. If you have specific questions you would like to ask, feel free to ask me. I know how stressful it is to be a FTM and hear all these horror stories about both vaginal and c/s. It isn't always that way and there are great stories out there too.
thanks for this... I have been having super high anxiety daily thinking about how this baby is going to come out of me. People keep telling me horror stories from both spectrums. (why!?) This made me feel a little better
People will continue to do that, it sucks and I'm not sure why they feel the need. Most people with a good experience don't feel the need to share, but man, if they had a bad experience, they can't wait to tell an expectant mom. Drives me crazy! What is your biggest fear? The pain, the recovery, tearing?
The pain part doesn't scare me too much (hopefully the epidural will work!) but when people started telling me horrible tearing stories like from one end to the other, etc. it has caused me to get super high anxiety. I am scared of the tearing and recovery for sure.
Do people have horror stories about random car accidents? Yes? Does it make you scared to drive? Probably not. People are going to have random horror stories about any event in life. Everyone has had a brother's sister in law's cousin have something terrible happen to them. You have to tell yourself that anything you do in life could have a terrible outcome or an awesome one. There's really no telling what it's going to be. The only thing you can really do it go in, trying not to stress, and let your body do what it's gonna do.

If it's your first, I say definitely try for a vaginal! I was a little scared/nervous with DD about tearing and the whole when would I go into labor and the epidural. I think most women are with their first. I had WONDERFUL nurses that took great care of me and I am sure you will too! My epidural was a breeze. I couldn't believe how much I worried over it. I will be having a scheduled c-section this time, but only because DD ended up in a c-section and I am scared of a vbac and having my uterus rupture or trying and ending up with another c-section. I agree that i cannot believe some Dr's schedule c-sections without a medical reason or a previous c-section.
This may be an UO, but I think elective C-sections are awful. A vaginal birth IS better and safer for your baby. People that have elective C-Sections are selfish, IMO. I can't even imagine having major abdominal surgery to avoid a vaginal birth.
NOTE: this does not apply to those that have C-sections for medical reasons including a previous C-section, multiples, medical conditions, etc.
Agreed 100% - my doctor won't even entertain a scheduled c-section unless it is medically necessary.
Everyone is obviously entitled to their own opinion that is what makes the bump so fun. However calling elective C-section selfish I don't think is fair. There can be an increased risk of doing a homebirth but nobody seems to be slamming them for it. I do not care how people birth their kids and I fully support every method. Their are pros and cons to each form. My first C/S was emergency C/S. My second is suggested by my OB with me agreeing. I could try for a VBAC but honestly my Csection was so wonderful I would really like to repeat that experience. People choose their birthing by what is best for them and their family, who cares why they choose it.
With that said I think a FTM may want to at least try a V birth b/c she may have regrets after if she doesn't, I don't however think it is selfish to have a Csection if you prefer it.

I will be doing a scheduled repeat C/S, for many reason, some of which include major complication with my son resulting in a very quick emergency C/S (we are talking minutes from prep to babies out). My doctors have told me we will schedule for sometime around 38 weeks and if I go into labor before then I will become an emergency C/S. I am a little sad I didnt get to do a vag delivery but am hoping to talk to my OBGYN and MFM about doing a Natural C/S Ive been reading about, I feel like we missed out on alot of important bonding time with my son I saw him for a quick minute he was taken away and I didnt get to see him for 4 hours +

But if you get an elective c-section, then your doctor can just do a tummy tuck at the same time and you can be back on the cover of US Weekly in no time at all!
I'm shooting for a vbac with my best friend, mr. epidural. DD #1 was a vaginal birth. Quick recovery and nothing stronger than Motrin needed for pain. DD #2 was by c-section. God awful recovery and the experience itself was just bad. I was soo out of it and as pp's said, you can't even hold your baby right away. It took for what seemed like an eternity for the drugs to wear off so that I was lucid enough to hold her. With #1, I was up and walking not even an hour after having her. Since DD #2 is almost 8, my OB said I shouldn't have any problems going the vbac route. Fingers crossed!!

I'm going for a natural unmediated birth, possibly at home, or at my midwife's birthing center....not quite sure which yet!;)
This will be our first....and after doing a lot of research(NOT reading horror stories, I refuse to do that!) I will be going the total natural way, including with a midwife!:-)

I'm planning on a vaginal + epidural.
If I need a C-section, I will not fight it. I trust my doctors, they are known for being good about only intervening when necessary.
