I just had my anatomy scan and while the doctors office sent me a letter in the mail telling me not to empty my bladder 30 min before the scan, the first thing they had me do before the scan was go to the bathroom. Not sure why.
Mine did not need a full bladder. They actually told me on the phone that I did so I drank water and they made me use the bathroom when I got there-then 15 minutes into the a/s, then 15 minutes later. They kept telling me my bladder was filled again and to go to the bathroom again. They told me whoever I spoke to on the phone made a mistake.
I was told to have a full bladder. The paper they gave me had ridiculously specific instructions. It was basically a peeing schedule. As i was leaving the office, i was told to have a full bladder, but not to obsess over it or make myself miserable. Last u/s they said i did great filling my bladder and all i did was drink 8oz of water as i was on my way out the door for my appointment.
I would check. I did NOT need a full bladder. I used the restroom while I was waiting for my appointment. It seems like there is about an even mix here though. Call just to be sure.

I did, they told me it was so they can see my cervix easier. After that was all checked/measured she let me pee and then they did the rest of the scan for the baby measurements, which don't need a full bladder as it is surrounded by the amniotic fluid. I'd call and ask if they didn't tell you before hand.

It's so weird seeing all of the responses that say they needed their bladder full. My doctor and the MFM have made it very clear at every ultrasound since 5 weeks that my bladder should be empty. They said that the bladder being full makes it harder to see the baby and it makes it harder for the baby to change positions.
Re: Do you need a full bladder for the anatomy scan?
When I booked the appt for my A/S they made it very clear to come with a full bladder

Ugh, mine was 32 oz! I believe it is a tech preference as to whether you're bladder needs to be full or not.
Mine was on Monday and I was not told to have a full bladder. Everything seemed to work out fine!

My information from the hospital I was going to stated that I did not need to have a full bladder. I would check with the Dr before the appt.
