DD can be very particular about certain things ("no, I want the PINK spoon!") but from what I can see from other kids her age this seems totally normal. She will frequently want things to happen the same way they happened before, like she might want to sit in the same seat that she sat in last time we went to my mom's, or something like that. Usually these little things only last a short time and then she forgets about it.
However, she's been doing this weird thing at night where she wants to touch her door before bed. My mom babysat her for several nights while we were away and I guess maybe that's when it started(?) It just seems really odd to me and very OCD. Tonight I just said "no, let's wait until tomorrow" and put her in bed and she didn't complain, so maybe it's nothing.
Anyway, I know it's minor, but it weirded me out and I didn't know if it was normal for a two year old or kind of out there... I'll probably mention it to her doctor, but I wanted to pick your brains. thoughts?
Re: is this normal two-year-old quirks or just weird?
Oh lordy buckle your seatbelt; this one is a bumpy ride. DD#1 hit it at 3, one of my twins is starting at 2.5. Tapping food to the table aand plate before eating it. Screaming if all the car doors weren't opened before she got out. Head spinning if they weren't closed in the proper order or if they didn't echo properly. Histrionics if some of the spit/toothpaste dribbled out of her mouth before she had a chance to spit. Um, I could go on. And it lasted a few months. Long enough for me to devour every child development book to make sure she didn't have a personality disorder. And she is fine.
Now as I am starting my second go of it, I fight it far less and focus on helping her tell me what her OCD monster is demanding before she explodes, and unlike last time, trying to anticipate and avoid a lot more since it is a phase that will pass. Good luck!

*please excuse my typos, bumping from my iphone*
DD has to count the fire alarms upstairs 100 million times and the first thing she does when we go to someone's house is find the fire alarms on the ceiling. Also has some weird obsession with finding the microwave in everyones house.
I will say we are going to grandma's house and she will get excited screaming "grandma has 3 fire alarms and a white microwave!!"
totally weird and yet totally normal according to her ped.
We were worried that DD was starting with OCD she was doing the mommy?s seat thing and wanting things to go a certain way, plus my brother has autism so I was very worried. Then she never wanted her hands dirty would not even finger paint, then she had to touch the light in her room before bed. I brought it up with her pedi and she said it was normal and that I should not worry. In the past three months she has gotten a little more lax with the hand washing thing and is better about getting dirty so I am guessing she is starting to grow out of it. According to the doc, OCD does not present this young.
