Cloth Diapering

Wool covers question

I have a few wool covers that I had my mom sew from up cycled sweaters. I cut the pieces generously to make sure she had enough to fix an errors, and to be able to make them large enough that they would last LO a little while...well, they are enormous. Do you think I should wash them on hot and dry them to see if I can get them to shrink a little? I have lanolized them and used them a couple of times, but DD is swimming in them. Thanks

Re: Wool covers question

  • No, because you'll felt them beyond repair. A little bit of felting is good, a lot is bad.

I'd find more sweaters and have your mom make new ones.

  • I say sacrifice one and see. I made some a few weeks ago and one was just too big. I washed it with a load of regular laundry and then flat dried. It shrunk but not horribly and now it's a size we can use. I lanolized it and we have used it with no ill effects. I am sure this is against all wool rules but it worked. So again I vote try one and see what happens. I wouldn't do hot and dryer though that might get you an instant mini wool!

  • Thanks all...She can, and does wear it now, I just roll up the legs and pull it up to her armpits, but she looks a little silly. Maybe I will try and sacrifice one and see what happens.
