Update also posted on preemie board

Hi I just found out if we can wait until I'm 37 weeks my doctor said she will induce me. My pregnancy has been crazy and very hard. I had a ultrasound at 5weeks and thats when we found out we had two sacs but nothing in them yet. I had another us at 8 weeks and found out that my body absorbed the second sac and that the one sac had one baby with a good heart rate. I had a ton of u/s after that and was high risk due to my past mc's. Trying to make this short I did have a leak in my water very early on and was on bed rest. I did end up in the hospital for that and because my bp was off. I ended up in a coma because I went into a diabetic coma and then had Insulin Shock. It was very scary for my DH and he didnt know what to do other then pray. I finally woke up and with all the right meds things looked better my baby looked fine the whole time thank god. I was able to come home weeks later. I am/was still on bed rest had doctors 2 times a week.

Fast forward to two weeks ago when my blood pressure dropped and my doctor thought I just needed fluid. She sends me upstairs for an iv I was lucky and the on call doctor did some blood work and found my iron and b12 levels were super low. I had to have 3 b12 shots while in the hospital and a blood and pure iron transfusion. They couldn't find the reason why my levels dropped so fast and sent me home I have to take iron pills 3 times a day and get a b12 shot every week. I was home for 3 days and the third night I started bleeding and clots scared I was losing the baby I went to the hospital that has a level 3 nicu and children's hospital. I get there and two doctors examine me and they said I am 1 cm dilated and see the bloods coming from cervix. They give me the shots for his lungs and after 5 hours decide to keep me. I see the high risk doctor the next morning and she wanted a u/s and blood work. They couldn't find the bleed and again my iron is low. I stay in the hospital 3 days before they let me go because she has no clue what else to do and baby looks good. I was crying the whole time worried my baby was/is going to die because these doctors have no clue where the blood is coming from and why my uterus is irritable.

I seen my doctor monday and she said if I can keep him in until 37 weeks thats when she will take him out. They said its a mild abruption and sometimes they never find it until I have him. I am scared but trying to stay strong. I have doctors and testing 3 times a week and if they see he is not doing good they will take him out sooner. I have tried to stay off the computer for a very long time but I finally looked it up yesterday and I keep reading that the baby ends up passing because they waited to long. I told my doctor that I am worried because his movement is very slow and he barley moves and she said not to worry because they do the nst test and he looks really good. Sorry so long and Im sure I left out something but I wanted to see if any of you have had this happen. Thank you Debbie

  • I also just returned home from a couple of days in the hospital.  I was having extremely heavy bleeding and after checking me they said they think my cervix is irritated.  They gave me some cream to use for a week in hopes to 'heal' the cervix.  They also said the baby looks and sounds just fine so that was good to hear.  It sounds like you have been through a lot since the beginning so I hope you have the best of luck and hopefully your LO waits until at least 37 weeks to arrive :)

  • I'm so sorry that you've gone through all that!  T&P for you both.

In the meantime: stop reading what's on the internet!  Your dr. knows you better than dr. google.

Definitely agree with this.  I can't imagine how scary this whole process has been for you and your family.  Nothing good can come of stories on the internet.  Definitely share your concerns with your doctor(s), but I would definitely take their advice over a story online.  You also have the advantage that you've seen multiple docs who seem to be saying the same thing.

Good luck and I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly!

  • I had a somewhat similar experience.  I had a lot of bleeding that they said was probably from having internal exams, but since I had a marginal previa on all but my last u/s, they couldnt be sure.  I also had an "irritable" uterus.  I dont have diabetes, but my Blood pressures were really high. I also had contractions that wouldn't stop.  Hydration helped (along with IV meds).

I was hospitalized for over a week where they monitored me with ultrasounds daily to see if the source of bleeding could be found, although it would be unlikely as the majority of bleeding sources are not found, and to monitor the babies.   In my case, they wanted me to keep the twins in as long as possible without being detrimental.

If an US had started showing that the babies were having issues, the babies would have been born that day.  My BP is ultimately what caused the doctors to deliver the twins, but my placenta's pathology showed that it was starting to have issues.

They may never find the source of your bleeding which is really frustrating.   It sounds like they are monitoring you pretty closely though which is great. I would maybe ask for more frequent ultrasounds? Ours were fine until the last week and even then we found a heart issue on day 3 of 8 scans.  I wish you the best of luck!
  • Thoughts and Prayers to you and your LO.  Im so sorry you are having to go through this.
