HCG levels. Normal or not?

On the day I found out I was pregnant, my HCG level was 40.2 .. I had a blood draw yesterday and my level was 247.4.. the numbers  are doubling but my searching of what's "normal" has led me to believe that it is not. I'm 5 wks 2 days. What were your levels @ that time & do you guys think this is normal?

Re: HCG levels. Normal or not?

  • It could be perfectly normal. Do you know how many days were between the two tests?

  • The numbers don't really mean anything.  The fact that they are doubling in the appropriate amount of time means more.  Try not to analyze whether the level is normal or not.  All women are different.  I started this pregnancy with hcg of 91.4 and it doubled in 2 days, then again every 2 days until my RE stopped testing at 1,000.  There are other women I talk to on another board that start at over 300 or even under 25 who have had healthy pregnancies.

    Yes

I had mine drawn at 5w5d and results were 1000, 4 days later they were 10900.  The docs office was just happy the doubling time was 48 hrs (or less, in my case).

  • Mine were 28 when I found out. 2 days later they were 238 and then 3 days after that they were 889. As long as they are doubling, you should be fine.

  • My first beta was only a 49. They doubled two days later. One week later, I was over 21,000 and found out it's twins! Your beta sounds fine.

This makes me feel better, I just had my betas done yesterday and I was kinda obsessing over the number it would be. Thank you for posting this!

  • I work in a hospital lab and deal with HCGs pretty frequently. The one thing I can tell you is the the ranges are HUGE, everyone is different and so are everyone's levels.  Also results can vary slightly depending on where it is done (my lab may get a slightly different result than your lab but the ranges would be different too) so the internet ranges will not be as reliable as the ranges set at your lab. The only thing you can do is listen to your doctor as they will have the most accurate information for your tests. Hopefully you will get an ultrasound soon that can give you a more definite date. Good luck, hope this helps.
