Cloth Diapering

Wanting to give cloth wipes another chance

I did cloth wipes when DS was EBF but found it difficult to manage when he started solids....11 months ago.

It's not very ploppable right now and he usually only poops once a day now, but boy is it big!  It usually takes 4-5 wipes to clean him up and it's messy.  There's not a spare spot to be had on the diaper so I can't really even use that to "scrape" off the excess poop from his but.  So, if it's not TMI, there's a lot of poop on the diaper still, but it's hard enough rinsing the diapers, let alone a small scrap of wipes and it's too much to put in the wash.

Am I missing something here?  I don't have a sprayer, DH insists we do not need one but I think it might make this easier.  I can't really figure out a way to rinse the wipes off in the toilet without getting myself covered in nasty toilet water....

  • My LO has similar poop, it just covers the entire diaper! A sprayer is very necessary in my opinion. There is no way I would still CD if we did not have one. hehe. My DH finds it fun to spray off the diapers too so that is a plus as well.

  • Our toilet is right next to our bathtub, and we have a shower head on a hose so that's how we spray our diapers and if necessary our wipes. If I'm lazy I swish in disgusting toilet water.

My son is still ebf so I use cloth wipes with no problem, but plan on using a sprayer when he's bigger. Out of curiosity, does your husband change diapers and deal with the clean up too? If not I'd say he doesn't realize that a sprayer is probably necessary, and if he does, hie must have more patience than most!

  • I'm new to this board since I will be trying cloth dipes with my second girl due in August.  My SIL has been using cloth dipes and wipes since her daughter was about 6 months old.  A sprayer of some sort sounds like a necessity to me.  I found one on Craigslist but my SIL says that there are tutorials on how to make one yourself if your DH is handy!  Good luck!

Actually he loves fluff and does most of the toilet dunking for our diapers and liners.  He does a better job than me so I ask him to do it a lot!

  • I'd get a sprayer.  IMO it just makes things so much easier.
  • We don't have a sprayer, I don't want to spend the $. I keep a rubber spatula, stolen from the kitchen, with the toilet brush. I scrape everything off and flush a couple times. I am not sure that a sprayer could spray hard enough to get the poo off without it shooting everywhere. There poo is super thick worse than peanut butter.

  • I haven't started solids yet so I hadn't really given any thought to dealing with the cloth wipes.  Is it really necessary to spray them?  Not looking forward to that...
