Baby Names

My Prediction

Since the board seems extra surly today, here's a thought just for the hell of it...

When driving past Jefferson Street this morning, it occurred to me that Jefferson has the makings of the next "it" name for boys b/c: 1) it ends with the overly popular "son," 2) it's the surname of a U.S. president; and 3) Jeff is a fairly normal nickname.

This is NOT to say that I like it, though. I actually think it's quite blech. Does anybody know a Jefferson IRL?

Haha. Yeah, it was the neighbor lady's second husband.

  • Has anyone seen the movie She's Having A Baby? Kevin Bacon's character's name was Jefferson, but he went by the nickname Jake (which I thought was weird). Anyway, I agree that this could definitely become a more common name since it fits a few current trends.

Oh, it's already gaining steam. I keep seeing it on Nameberry in the forums.

  • IDK, Jeff is kind of dated. Seems like parents don't usually like names that were popular in their (or their parents) generation. I think Jefferson would work, but "Jeff" will drive some people away.

I was wondering the same thing, but somebody asked about Geoffrey yesterday, so it might follow the trend that "everything old is new again."

  • I know three Jefferson's, all under the age of six. The kids are really sweet kids. Their parents, on the other hand, are the most annoying, irritating people I've ever met.
  • I have an Uncle with this name. He has always went by Jeff. He is approx 40 years old.

  • I like Jeffrey. I don't know a Jefferson but honestly, I could totally see this trend happening, especially if Jeffrey rises a little in popularity (seems to be under the radar in this generation).
