Toddlers: 24 Months+

help... ds wakes all night long

We put our ds (25 months) in a toddler bed when he turned 2.  It was bc he was climbing out of his crib and begging for a bed.  Problem is he wakes 3-4 times a night. Every time I walk him back to his bed.  This had been going on for a month now.  Im a zombie!!! Any suggestions??? I don't know what to do anymore.

  • How much are you interacting w/ him?  One thing I'd try is MINIMAL.  Try not to talk to him.  Just take him back, put him in bed, and leave.

When I have nights where DS keeps getting up, this is what I end up doing and at least w/ him - it works.  If he isn't getting "me", he isn't as interested in getting up.

    This!

I think part of the reason that ds quickly adapted to a good sleeping routine, is that if he wakes in the middle of the night, Dh or I will make it as boring as possible.  He doesn't get to play with toys, eat or drink anything, and we also don't talk to him.

Obviously, if he is sick or really upset, then we don't apply those methods.

  • DS#1 was coming into our room constantly and trying to get in bed with us. I would bring him back to his bed, but he would be back sometimes minutes later.  It was so frustrating.  We got him a sleeping bag for christmas.  We keep it under our bed and pull it out every night before we go to sleep.  If he wakes up he comes in and climbs in his sleeping bag on the floor.  He knows he can't get in our bed until there is a 6 on the clock.  It has worked wonders in our house, though I'm not sure if the reasoning would work with a 25 month old.  Good luck.  Sleep issues are so frustrating!
