Sciatic Nerve Pain & Labor

I am just two weeks away from my due date and just last night my sciatic nerve really started bothering me.  Today I can barely walk.  I'm worried it's going to make laboring a nightmare.  Has anyone had expirence with sciatic nerve pain?  How did it affect your labor?

Riley is going to be a big brother to a little sister due April 19th!!!!

Re: Sciatic Nerve Pain & Labor

  • I had horrible sciatic pain with my first for weeks and didn't notice it at all during labor.

I highly suggest a chiropractor...it helps with the daily life coping.

  • I had sciatic nerve pain with my first for a few weeks in the 3rd trimester with one really bad week where I had to be helped up and down stairs and sometimes just had to sit down and cry rather than risk trying to move along and my leg not cooperating. It went away at some point, as quickly as it had come, and I think it was completely dependent on DS's position. Once he moved down and off the nerve in preparation for the birth, I never had that pain again and didn't have it in labor at all. I hope it's the same for you!

  • Heat packs really help. It didn't affect my labor.

  • I was really wondering the same thing. I asked my mw and she said not to worry about it that it won't make a difference. My pain keeps moving around as LO does. The chiropractor did not help me at all. I went multiple times.

  • I had sciatica with both my pregnancies, but it never affected labor. Definitely try a chiropractor, it made a difference with my second pregnancy.
